Hey guys after playing SWTOR my memory is hitting 92-98% useage, so i want to upgrade from 4gig to 8gig. I need to know what mem I can put with it as that model don't seem to be available anywhere. and will it be okay to add to my current overclock.
I Have windows 7 64bit
700W

I have the Core i5 OC bundle @4.0Ghtz
MB is Gigabyte P55-USB3

Mem is CMD4GX3M2A1600C9 Corsair 1600 DDR3 Dominator 2x2GB

Info from CPU-Z

Thank you for any Help

I guess your feasible options are:

1) Add another 2x2gb of the same RAM you have at the moment. Totalling 8gb
2) Add 2x4gb of the same RAM you have at the moment. Totalling 12gb
3) Buy an 8gb kit of brand new RAM, sell your old stuff. Totalling 8gb
4) Add 2x2gb of different RAM providing the combination works. Totalling 8gb.
5) Add 2x4gb of different RAM providing the combination works. Totalling 12gb.

Unless you can reach your goal with overclock/stability/future upgrades in terms of slots/etc, I'd probably go with option 3 myself. Best possible overclock/stability in terms of number of sticks, also possibly paving the way for another 2 sticks for up to 16gb later on.

Adding another 4gb kit same make/model should work fine, dram voltage can be fine if you buy a 1.65v kit or 1.5v kit, depends on ram,you might need bit more qpi/vtt voltage with 8gb

Just make sure you buy a suitably volted/speeded RAM module.

Or, just buy a £50 8GB kit from Corsair or Crucial, and get an upgrade while you're there.

It's worth checking how the pagefile is set up on the PC as it may save you the cost of the RAM. As we've found in this thread, the pagefile was IMHO poorly set up and the owner was having similar problems when playing SWTOR.

so something like

See i was unsure if it would be worth putting another 4gig in with my 4gig, but I guess looking at costs its prob less headache if you just put new 2x4gig sticks,

as my system is OCed would that mean getting lower volt mem would ensure better stability?

That kit would be fine yes. A group called JEDEC set the specifications for RAM. They have specified a standard voltage of 1.5v for DDR3 modules. Early PC12800 modules were essentially pushed to work at 1600mhz by running at 1.65v.

1.65v is the limit that the Integrated Memory Controller inside Sandybridge CPUs can handle. Supposedly so long as you do not go above this, you'll be ok. However it's generally recommended/safer to run at 1.5v. Of course, we are overclockers and run things at the edge so this may slip somewhat!
