Hi I'm new to the forum and wanted some advice.
I'm looking to spend about £350 on a new cpu, motherboard and memory.
I've seen the following:

Intel E6600 core2 duo - £133
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro S775 - £16
Corsair (TWIN2X2048-6400C4) 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2 6400 - £82
MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition - £100

Total: £331

I will be using the following existing parts:
Vista Ultimate x64
Radeon x1950 pro 256mb
Creative labs X-fi extreme music
Samsung spinpoint 250gb SATAII
Seasonic 430W PSU

Any help would be apreciated!

Welcome to the forums :)

Personally i'd go for the E6750 over the E6600, it's faster at stock and cheaper too.

The RAM looks fine, but it all depends if you're going to be overclocking. Some ram clocks better then others, with many recommending the Crucial Ballistix PC2-5300 stuff (can clock up to/above 1000mhz apparently).

For a motherboard, i'd probably go for a P35 chipset, one of the new ones. They are more future proof, and start at under £100 too. I like my current Gigabyte P965-DS3P, so i'd be tempted to go for a Gigabyte P35 chipset board.

I also use a Freezer 7 Pro on my E6300@3ghz, stock volts. Keeps it nice and cool, but for more extreme air overclocking i'd probably suggest something a bit beefier.

Thanks for the advice TK7

Do you know if I will need to reinstall Vista, or can I boot from the install disk and do a repair? I don't want to loose all the stuff I've got installed!!

Thanks again

With changing the motherboard then yes, you'll have to reinstall really.

You could try otherwise, but I doubt the system will be stable.
