Hi, I got a new monitor last week (ELECTRIQ 34" WQHD QLED 144HZ CURVED MONITOR).

Previously my old monitor which was broken I used a USB-C to USB-C cable to it and it worked fine with my laptop but this new monitor only has HDMI and Displayport ports on it.

I ordered a USB-C to Displayport cable but it won't display or recognize it being plugged in at all, I then looked at the specs and it said the cable was compatible only with DP-ALT mode on USB-C.
Because the Monitor only allows 100HZ via HDMI I am using a monitor and not getting its full potential (144hz 2k)

Can anyone help me choose the right cable for my laptop for this monitor?

My Laptop: MSI GP66 10-UG
I7-10870H
RTX 3070

I don't want to waste any more money on a cable that won't work. All cables on Amazon UK say Thunderbolt 3 but I'm not sure if that will work or not?
On the USB-C port on the back of the laptop the logo just has a "D" on it. And I can't find any specific information anywhere on the internet about this model of laptop I have.

This is a bit of a mine field still unfortunately.

I've had some really bad luck with type-c to displayport cables actually doing what I want them to do, many are not upto the task, if you just wanted 1080p at 144hz they are fine but pushed to higher resolutions at high refresh rates most seem utter junk, I have a WARKEY branded one here that will do 4K 60Hz but curiously it doesn't like 3440x1440 at anything more than 30hz even though the bandwidth required for 4K 60hz is much higher than 3440x1440 at 60hz but 3440x1440 at 120Hz needs a bit more than 4K 60hz by contrast and driving that upto 144hz more still, so if I was buying a cable with that in mind I would look for one that says it can do 4K 120hz or 8K 60hz which 'should' mean if it actually does what it says, it has enough bandwidth to support that, but as I said, what they say seems to be mostly finction for a lot of these cables so take your pick and see you will rarely ever see an ultrawide screen resolution mentioned but it's really about the amount of data 'the bandwidth' the cable can carry so to drive 3440x1440 at 144hz you will need 21.5Gbps of bandwidth hence me saying look for cables that say they can do 4K 120Hz as a 4K 60hz cable likely wont have the bandwidth ....if it even has what it says in reality.

To be honest you would have saved yourself some headaches if you had just bought a monitor with a type-c connector in the first place as you can just buy a short Thunderbolt 3 passive cable, as these seem pretty reliable. The only ultrawide monitor I can think of that isn't a pure office monitor (i.e. has more than a 75hz refresh rate) and isn't 'very' expensive is the Gigabyte M34WQ but that is still significantly more expensive that what you have bought, you won't really get type-c connectivity on budget monitors as a rule at the moment unfortunately, infact type-c connectivity on monitors aimed at gaming is frustratingly limited still at any price, Gigabyte do it and MSI have a few examples.
