Help with Wireless network

Basically i am looking to get a laptop with a wirless card for use around my house. At the moment i have broadband into a 4 port switch router that distributes the internet to the four devices that need it at the moment. I was just wondering if it would work if i put a wireless card in my current pc and connect to the internet from the laptop through my computer would this work?

It would work, but it wouldn't be very reliable.

it wouldnt be in what way? sorry im a complete newbie when it comes to wireless stuff.

Well you gotta have your other pc on (obviously) and you'd have to bridge the connection between the wireless and wired connections on it, as well as have it in ad-hoc mode. It will work, but it will probably be a right pain in the ass sometimes. Probably easier to get a wireless access point and then connect it to your router.
