I have a Acer Aspire One A150 - ZG5 Netbook that i've fitted a 128GB Crucial M4 SSD to.

Currently running Windows XP Pro and looking for a good guide for optimizing XP on a SSD, anyone know of such guide?

before configuring it download AS SSD benchmark and open program (don't run benchmark).

It will list in top left corner the partition offset. If you made partition with Windows XP CD it will probably list 31k - BAD in red. That's something you need to sort out first before doing tweaks to Windows.

I tried XP but soon realised it was simply too old and really wanted an OS that supported SSD so I managed to find and install windows 7 for cheap :)

I'm now In the process of downloading a mountain of updates which seems to be taking forever!

Will be looking to optimze everything though.

I tried Windows 8 this week on another machine I've been installing and honestly I found the "Metro" interface counter intuitive and frustrating, after a couple of days I reverted the machine back to It's original Vista install and it felt much better.

I don't doubt the core of windows 8 is an improvement over windows 7 but the interface felt like Fisherprice had been drafted in to design it!

I have no desire to touch windows 8 again unless they allow the "Metro" interface to be disabled and re-instate the Start bar.
