Help! Won't post

ram in correct A2B2 config. although i tried single sticks in each slot as well

Try the 2 sticks in an A1B1 configuration.

EDIT: Also, as recommended above, make sure the RAM sticks are fully in and completely clipped down. Another thing to look our for, would be dust in the DIMM channels.

If the DRAM LED stays lit that indicates a RAM problem.

Take out all the RAM.

Clear the CMOS so you know you're working from the stock settings. Unlug the power supply from the mains, remove the motherboard battery for 30 seconds and then put it back in.

Put 1 stick of RAM in slot A2 but don't try and start the PC.

Now press and hold the MemOK! button until the DRAM LED blinks and, if I understand how it works, it should go through the tuning process.

Hi Tingle,

Finally reading through the manual are there any leds lit see page 2-18

Or are the indications that it is a memory fault?

Hey Jpod,
Like Surveyor said, it pretty much points to the RAM. The 'DRAM_LED' is one of the Post State LEDs, and under that (in the manual) it says;
"The POST State LEDs of CPU, DRAM, VGA card, and HDD indicate key components status during POST (Power-on Self Test). If an error is found , the LED next to the error device will continue lighting until the problem is solved. This user-friendly design provides an intuitional way to locate the root problem within a second."

So, it could be the memory, or it could be some dodgy DIMMS.

Hi
Yep, that's my understanding, frustrating when PC's wont start. Fingers crossed abweb gets to the bottom of it.

Hat's off to him it's his first build, sure you guy's will get him up and running

yea, no use. looks like i'll have to return either the RAM or mobo

Did you try what I said above?

I cleard CMOS, battery was out, one stick in A2.

you cant press memok! without pressing power buttom first though.
power then memok!, the light blinks, it restarts once, then blinks indefinatly.

Morning, did you move the jumper, see page 2-20 of the manual.

You unplug, motherboard jumper from one position to the other for 10 seconds and then move it back.

If that doesn't work you can repeat it and remove the battery as well.

So there are two different ways to try.

If one stick of memory in A2 position is not working, and neither is the other then I guess you could try the following:
Test you memory in another working rig? If both modules work it is the MB at fault.
Can you test your psu?
Best of luck and sorry you have not been successful so far.

Moving the jumper and taking out the battery do the same thing.

It would seem most likely you have a faulty component.

Processor - very unlikely.

RAM - possible, but having 2 faulty sticks would be pretty unlucky.

Motherboard - quite possibly.

PSU - also another possibility.

The only way to narrow it down is to start swapping components with any spares you have or swap components one at a time with another PC.

If you get the chance remove the CPU and make sure you haven't got any damaged pins in the socket.

Hey guys still no luck.
I think it is likely that it is the mobo at fault. There are no POST beeps from the system at all. It responds on power up the same with or without any RAM modules in - with the DRAM LED on.
As I currently use a laptop and this is my first build I dont have an array of spare rigs and components to test my stuff on and I don't know anyone one locally who does.
I am waiting for customor support to get back to me, I carried out the tests they asked me to do e.g. remove all components bar cpu, cooler, power cables and speaker, then record beeps as i add in components.

Ah, frustrating that, but there is often teething trouble and sure enough it will be sorted shortly

Nice one, Surveyor was right on the money. Hope Mark II build goes smoothly for you. All the best

Hi guys!

Got new mobo yesterday. Put it all together and installed windows 7 no problem. Tested out star craft 2 and it ran like a dream!

Turned it on this morning and it froze on the ASUS logo and the boot device led stayed lit on the mobo. How can my ssd have broken just sitting on my desk over night? lol

Also another i noticed yesterday was that when i shut the system down it would be powered off and then after around 5 seconds it would power back on but not boot with the cpu light on. could then only be turned off with psu switch. it would start up again normally though after this. any ideas?
