help writing letter.

Dear Johnloo,

We are very sorry to hear about the suffering and distress you are currently experiencing. We are also deeply sorry that GARP haven't taken your situation as seriously as we do.

In order to aid in in this time of studying we are going to postpone all future building works until you the 20th Novemeber despite this costing the owners and our company thousands of pounds, we're also speaking to all future customers and advising them that the schedules for the next 6 months will be pushed back to accomdate you.

We wish you the best of luck in your upcoming test. We have enclosed a pack of ear defenders and headache tablets in case the noise from our machines leaving the site has a negative effect on your cognitive ability.

Many thanks,

The Trust.

Or, as you seem to be home all day. Sleep during the day using ear plugs and study in the evenings or overnight.

I know what i'd do with that letter coming through my door, use it for toilet paper!

Include the cost and what you deem to be a suitable recompense for the time/distress the work has caused you.

Include the things that Will Gill mentioned about working hours etc if they have worked outside of them.

I don't think you will get the favourable outcome you want though, sadly someone will always be put out by building work as there is nebe a good time to get it done.

The point is if was was told in advance I would have been able to cancel it.

it's building work for god sake - get on with it. 99p ear plugs and stop moaning.

You want neighbours/council/roads department to give you prior notice of work commencing?? Really??:rolleyes:

Fair enough, johnloo. Could've been a case miscommunication or maybe he's just forgotten all about it. Public works normally do put out signs and info out there, private works have no such obligation (assuming he got the planning permission and had met other requirements). These things do happen. If the work was legal and during regular working hours, there's little that can be done -- you were not in a contract with a liabilities and damages clause. As regrettable as poor exam results and wasted money are, legally you'd just be creating another headache for yourself and wasting time.

Can't see the issue here. Someone's doing work on their house. They will have got planning permission so it would have been advertised. If you didn't see it then it's hardly their fault. They're going to do their work regardless of the neighbours.

If the quality of your course work is anything like your "letter", you sir, have failed already.

Pretty much this.

Use the library during the day.

What is wrong with this latest generation!!!!!! No aptitute, no robustness, no initiative. The inability to listen to good advice provided on OCUK is never changing so to be fair can't call the op out on that.

Build a bridge and get over it.

Yes it might suck a little bit but there's not much you can do about the work as it will only be done inside hours that are deemed generally reasonable. The energy and effort used to post such a letter would be better used studying too.

I'd suggest heading off the the library as already mentioned and studying there or asking any family/friends if you can study at theirs instead. Change the situation you're in, don't moan about it.

You have 2 threads for this???

Look unless they are working at unsociable hours or not working in compliance with building regs, planning permission, party wall act etc there is nothing you can do.

So quit you whining and be an adult. You have plenty of options library, coffee shop, friends etc. Pick one and go and study rather than filling forums with dribble.
