Help! XML issues

Hi all,

I've got a document that is supposed to be a normal Word Doc, but it's got an XML file extension.
Opening it in lots of different programs displays the XML, and Word 2008 lets you just see the text, but I can't do anything to get the layout as it should be.

Any ideas what I can do?

Change file extension to .doc?

Tried that - opens in Word, displays the full XML code as if you'd opened it in textedit

Does the .docx extension work?

If .docx doesn't work you could try .odt (OpenDocument format), not sure if Word can open that directly or not. If you look at the raw XML are there any clues as to the format?

Edit: Seems Office 2007 SP2 or 2010 can open OpenDocument, for others there's a plugin
