I received my PC yesterday, put it all together and no post.

Specs are

Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6
Quad core 2.4ghz
Geil 800mhz Ram
780w OCZ PSU
3870 ATI

I've done a lot already to try fix but maybe someone can help me identify what the problem is.

When I turn it on, the keyboard is alive but caps lock etc doesn't work (if it's suppose to), the fans on the case work, the cpu fan goes on for about a second and then switches off, does the same on my brother's gigabyte machine so I'm guessing that's normal?, fan on the graphics card works. The reset button does not work but I've checked it multiple times and it's in correctly on the panel (I think there's only one place it can go?), it's starting and just locking up?

The monitor does not switch on at all, I tried another graphics card and that makes no difference, also tried my new graphics card in another machine and that works.

I have tried re doing graphics, ram in different slots, cpu and cpu fan. Taken hard drives out, dvd-rw out etc. Taken the motherboard out of the case to make sure nothing is shorting it.

Today I tried my brothers PSU and it didn't work and I'm starting to run out of ideas, So I think it's down to the Motherboard and CPU.

Any help would be appreciated.

i have a feeling its the motherboard. When my ezcool power supply blew up, it took killed my motehrboard along with it which left a very similar symtpom your having right now.
I didn't know what was the problem at first, then i decided to take a gamble and have the motherboard replaced which thankfully solved the problem.

So me thinks it could be the motherboard, you should rma it asap.

Sounds like you've done pretty much all you can do, I think its most likely the mobo. Unless someone can lend you a mobo to test your CPU init'll be tricky to narrow it down further

Thanks for the reply's, I have tried 1 stick and many other combinations for the ram, Iv 'e reset the bios many times too.

Do you think it could be a bios thing? There is a new bios out for the motherboard but I don't know how you can update it if it doesn't post, is it possible?

If you've already tried all that i'd RMA the motherboard. Just confirm that you did have the 24pin power connector and the 4 or 8 pin one connected.

If you hadnt plugged you 12 volt 4/8pin connection in to your motherboard you would get similar results to the ones your getting,ie no output to the monitor, dont know about the reset button though..
