My friend has a Dell Dimension 5150 and when switched on, it lasts for about 10 minutes then restarts.

I am thinking it may be a heat issue. I have never opened up one of these before but had a quick look. I don't want to fiddle about with it too much as I'm not to familiar with the black block as you can see from a picture I got off Google.

Any help would be great!

I'm not sure I should be helping a Hibee. :p

The black block looks to be a heatpipe of some form which is directing the warm air away from the CPU, you should be able to dismantle it fairly easily and remove any dust build up.

Have you checked any of the temperatures with Speedfan or similar? Heat may not be the cause of your problems. :)

may be a bit difficult if its restarting so fast. ALthough im not sure it could really get hot enough on start up to do that as its not going to be under load i wouldn't have thought.

Run memtest that might show it up if you can also.
