Hey guys,

Basically I was playing a game on my laptop and the screen suddenly froze, the audio was stopped and lots of pixels on my screen changed to some weird colours. I restarted the laptop and now all my screen shows is some weird coloured lines (I can't even see the booting menu). However it seems Windows is working since I hear the windows welcome sound every time I reset, even though I can't see anything on my screen.

What do you think the problem is? Can it be the graphics card?

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE
I left it off for a day, restarted again, no success.
Took my laptop to my friend's house to see if he could help me with it and it suddenly started to work!
Took it back home and its dead again!

could be graphics card overheating problems perhaps? where do you normally use or laptop? if its on a bed or cusiony area there is likely to be a huge build up of dust. one problem i did have with my old laptop was a simular to yours was that the cable from the screen to the laptop motherboard had somehow come loose might be worth a look if you can open it

Sounds like the GPU is over heating or failed, leave it off for an hr in a cool room and try a restart.

This symptom is indicative of faulty GFX RAM. Seeing as many laptops have shared RAM you might be lucky and it's just your main RAM that's gone, and that's easily replaced. So, run a memtest to check. Other than, if the GFX are on the mainboard rather than a discrete one you're in trouble. Could also be a loose connection (it did work again for a short time after all, but that may just be temperature related and as soon as it get warm it dies again)
