ihav an acer aspire 8920g and my screen has gone black but still works through the vga or hdmi .i have reinstalled vista and up dated drivers any help would be apprecated

I would suggest the cable connecting the screen to the base has become dislodged, if youre comfortable doing it you can take it apart and make sure its fitted correctly

Can you try looking at the screen in the light and move it around a bit, more often than not with laptops the inverter blows.

This is a device that combines the video signal and power together to feed the monitor/light the back light.

I've also seen the cable frey in the hinge on of the monitor and do a similiar thing. If your confident enought take it apart and examine the cabling but like I say most times this happens its the inverter.

If it is the inverter its a reasonably easy job to replace it.

If the backlight is broken, you should still be able to see the screen if you look at extreme angles. If you see absolutely nothing, then check the connector cables. if nothing still, check your warranty level.

Also, please try not to double post if you can help it... you can edit your own posts to save on that. If you double post too much to try and get to the 250 mark, the mods will reduce your post count.
