Just built my new PC;

i5 750
MSI P55 GD80
4GB Gskills Ripjaw
Crossfire 5770's
Corsair VX550
Corsair H50-1
2 x F3 500GB (For Raid0)

Just built it, and it doesnt boot, doesnt post, fans spin up for a few seconds.
The little LCD display on the MB showed error code D4 first, googled and found its a memory issue? So took out one stick, unlugged, cleared CMOS and tried again. Fans spin, Error Code 2A now!

What have I done wrong? :(

I dont know what to do, am getting so many different errors! If I swap graphics cards I get different errors, swap ram modules I get different errors. Help! :(

Right, If I have both stick of Ram in Slots 1 and 3 I get the error D4, If I have either in slot 1, It goes pack D4 and I get the error 2A. Does that mean slot 3 is broken? :\

Have tried both my 5770's individually and also a passive PCI-E card I had laying about here. I was using one of my 5770's yesterday so I know they work fine. If I try the GPU in a different PCI-E slot I get a different error message again.

Try it with 1 stick of ram, 1 GPU and 1 HDD.

Also, considering everything it seems like the mobo is seriously acting up. Is is all getting enough power ?

In addition, the whole LCD screen thing can sometimes be unnecessarily confusing, what does the screen say ? Most errors come up either during of after a post if the mobo is fine itself, at which point does it all go wrong ?

I would have thought It would be getting enough power? :|

I get the furthest with 1 stick of RAM and 1 GPU. Havent tried changing the number of HDD's would it make any difference? :|

Probably not, but its always good to eliminate as many factors as possible while trying to isolate the real issue. Start from the bottom up, make sure the PSU works properly and gives out enough juice to power the whole thing. For example, a lack of power can give out errors all over the place that just hide the root problem.

The PSU was fine yesterday powering the Rig in my sig. I would have thought it should be more than ample for the new rig? :|

Any thoughts on that error code?

Try one HD, I've done a few quick searches on that error and multiple hard drives keep popping up. Worth a shot.

Also, can you get into BIOS, do the fans keep on spinning, at which point in the boot-up does it come apart and what does the screen say (assuming the errors you quotes were from the LCD) ?

Will try 1 HDD then. When I searches I got loads of results about graphics?

I cant get into the bios, the fans spin up for about 2-3 seconds, the LCD is on the MB, then everything shuts off and the MB goes into standby mode (Standby light on?)

Are all your fans connected to the mobo, if not do the case fans continue spinning ? This really seems like a mobo issue to just give out like that even before posting. Sorry, I cannot provide a more intimate understanding as I do not share any of your components and am unfamiliar with the quirks. It seems wise to wait for someone more knowledgeable to reply and possible browse the web for similar issues with the motherboard.

From here its looking like an RMA for the mobo itself. I am quite sure that most GPU, RAM, HDD and even CPU problems would come up a bit into the boot-up, this just seems like its not getting there at all.

One more thing, as soon as I turn the power on on the back of the PSU, the computer turns on by its self? I thought that it was my front pannel wiring, but I then removed all of them and it still boots on its own and work re-boot until you fully power off at the PSU and turn back on?

THis is soo strange. Wish I never bought this board (got it off the MM so now warrenty probably :()

Would removing the battery for 10 mins help at all? Clear the CMOS properly? How long should I hold down the "clr CMOS" button? :\

People often like to exaggerate the time it takes for the CMOS to reset, without a battery it will be gone in like 30 sec unless there's some sort of contingency/backup in place.

Also, the fact that you got the board off the MM makes me wonder whether it was faulty in the first place or became so at some point. (not necessarily deliberately, maybe he thought it was his rig that's at fault.)

The power thing is very strange indeed, the mobo should hold off powering itself until given an order to do so, its like it cant help it. I'm not very techincal when it comes to pure electronics and do not understand how the mobo 'opens/closes' its connection to the PSU, hence pure speculation, but it would stand to reason that once that 'mechanism' is damaged or blown out somehow nothing would stop the power going straight through it unchecked...

Why else would it power itself as soon as the PSU get's turned on ?

I must stress though that I'm shooting blind here, need backup :p

Here is the thread I bought it from;

MSI P55-GD80

info

superb 1156 motherboard, used this with a i5 750, i7 860 and a Xeon 1156, works perfectly and comes complete, one of the most feature packed boards out there, working perfectly and comes with the receipt, was purchased from a member here end of last year

£80 inc

The guy I bought it off had 359 positive trust comments :\

Am tempted to email the guy I bought it off. The board sounds like its ****** :(

This sucks, got the i5 750, H50-1 and two Sapphire 5770's for my birthday on Wednesday and havent been able to use it yet! :(

Ok last stab, you said that all fans are connected to the fan controller. Make sure that the H50 fan is in the proper CPU_FAN header, some mobos go apes**t over nothing being plugged in there.

Finally, the post says that you should have gotten a receipt, depending on the warranty, you might still be able to RMA. Overall, it does indeed very much seem like a faulty mobo, and yeah... it sucks.
