ok this is when i thought it was connected to the net but im guessing the nvidia thing is just using the explorer to display that? but then it shows sent and recived? either way it wont connect to any sites

Your IP address is in the Link-Local 169.254 range, which means that your computer has not been manually assigned an IP, and the router is not using DHCP or for some reason DHCP isn't working correctly to auto assign an IP address.

If you go into your network adapter properties you can manually assign the IPv4 address. I think the netgear vmdg280 uses 192.168.0.1 by default, so set your ip address to 192.168.0.2 with a mask of 255.255.255.0 and you should have connectivity.

Right click on the 'local area connection' and go to properties, in the properties there should be a list of items, one of which is 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)', click that and then press properties.

In that you should get a window with where to enter the IP address, try 192.168.0.2 with the mask 255.255.255.0 and the gateway 192.168.0.1 and hopefully that should work.

use the same settings as that PC then, except rather than using 192.168.0.2 use 192.168.0.3, as each device needs a unique IP.

it seems the 1394 connection seems to be conflicking between the 2 pcs not allowing me to use the same settings for both pcs?

should the 1394 connection be enable or dissable?

the no connection pc is xp and working is win 7 , doesnt matter does it?

ok so heres the settings now

ip ad 192.168.0.4
sub mask 255.255.255.0
default 192.168.0.1

Preferred: 208.67.222.222
Alt: 208.67.220.220

and guess what, it wont work, this is in XP, if i install windows 7 will it make any differance

also i notice above he says "ivp4 " but it doesnt show this on xp it just shows
internet protocol (TCP/IP)

Maybe XP didn't have support for IPV6 therefore it just says TCP/IP.
Try and ping the default gateway..
Start>run>cmd>ping 192.168.0.1

if you can do that try ping 208.67.222.222

Reuest times out for both ips

ill install win 7 and then start again..

would 2 pci adaptors in each pc work instead? im sure theres some in my mums shed ? connect to net throw my main pc instead

If you can't ping your default gateway you can only normally connect within your network.

ping 192.168.0.2 (you said this was PC1) could see if this works.

You tried plugging into a different port on the router?
