help

But if PC1 is plugged into port1 and PC2 is port 2. Have you tried plugging PC2 into like port 3?

Or PC1 into port 2.. Switch ports break so. Heck I would still install W7 anyway ;)

show us the ipconfig of the device that is not working, so that we can see if it is configured correctly.

just type ipconfig in run? its now showing much but ill get a screen shot

edit - done,

I don't think you would be able to configure the settings if the wrong/no driver was installed. Plus I imagine the ping errors would be different. You could always check device manager to see if there are any errors.

"To open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. "

I would be installing W7 before messing around with PCI network cards, unless you have one laying around :p

a few in my mums shed according to my step dad just means taking a trip there

btw - win 7 was installed at first, last night but that didnt work so installed XP instead, but ill try win 7 with the setting that have been said

Try to ping 127.0.0.1

If you can ping that, it means that the network card and software are operating enough to ping the local loopback address so that should not be an issue.

The configuration looks like it should work based on what you've said, and you say the other ports on the router work fine for your other device, so perhaps it's a bad cable. Have you tried a different network cable? perhaps try use the one that the working PC is using.

yes i tryed swapping them as my first idea to fix the problem , seems i can get internet throw any cable on this pc.

hhd is wiped clean now - win 7 is about to load its files.

Have you tried doing what dist said: Try to ping 127.0.0.1
Presumably you still can't ping 192.168.0.1 though.

I'm out of ideas for now, not sure why it finds the destination host unreachable when it's plugged directly into it..

You could try the PCI card if you have one but my understanding about the 127..... Loopback address is that the NIC is working fine.
