Its an old 775 board, support DDR3 1333mhz RAM.
Upgrade to a new chipset seems a good idea.

Only reason is that the only upgrade path from the 6300 is the 8320 and there isn't anything to go to after that
AM3+ is pretty much a dead socket (from what I've heard at least!)
I think the Z97 board will have future broadwell support (rumoured) and at least have upgrade options to i3/i5/i7 in the future
There are more upgrade options though the 6300 will theoretically give better performance in multi-thread games i.e. BF4 etc, though the Pentium K when OC'd holds it's own!
Up to you really, I'd go for the Z97 setup though ExRayTed's AM3+ will be great too!

Intel purely for the long term scalability to a i5/i7.
