HELP!!

After waiting for my new gpu to arrive and putting it into my case, i went to turn my pc on... Nothing, checked and rechecked connections, nothing... I went out and bought a new psu, put that in and nothing... The computer wont power on at all! I think i may have killed it somehow... I made sure to get rid of any static before working on the computer. All that happens, is the fans twitch and thats it.... Omg please help me

It's shorting out, remove it all out the case and try powering it on.

Have you tried using a different cable and power socket?

I'll give that a go.

Its a brand new corsair psu, i had to cut out part of the case as my hdd cradle was in the way, i think some fillings may have made its way onto the mobo, even thought i was extremely careful

Have you checked that you have plugged the 4/8 pin power to the mobo, easily missed.

Well I'd start with a process of elimination, take it all out and put on a non conductive service like the motherboard box and start off with a minimal boot without the graphics card and hard drives and work from there.

Assume reset CMOS and have the correct wattage for the PSU? Check cable in case a fuse blew out too.

I had this issue with my friends computer and it turn out to be dead motherboard. FAns just moved a little and that it. Hope you get it fix, I know how frustrating can it be when you have no spare parts laying around to swap out. IF you dont have parts you may pop in to local pc part store and they may lend you few parts for small fee.

I think u may be right, i just pulled the guts out and put on the gpu box, still nothing, nothing was attached to the mobo apart from the 24 pin connector and cpu power slot. Still the same issue... I just wasted £80 on a new psu methinks :confused:

What is the full specs of your computer .. most importantly the psu make and wattage ?

Is the power button cable attached the right way?
Can you start the system by shorting the pins / a motherboard start button?

Sounds like the board is dead, when you were cutting the case did you remove the board? Metal fillings I assume could short it if they were on it?

I didnt remove the board

maybe some did get on it, i cleaned the board thoroughly before i put any power throught it. Oh ****

Crap! I forgot, i used an OEM operating system.... Does this mean my Hdd will need wiping and a fresh OS put on?

youll struggle to buy a new 1155 socket board.
it will need a fresh install due to the new board but even at that youre always better to do one.

what CPU is it youre using? just wondering if it might be doing an upgrade to a newer socket and CPU

I53570k but i looked at the prices of the i7 and i cant afford to spend 200+

your best bet would be having a look on the auction site you will pick up an 1155 board there. just hope you haven't killed the CPU.

I managed to do this with my FX8350.

with luck I had a spare board and an older CPU to try in the board. turned out my board was fine but the CPU was fried.

I was only moving the board from my old case to my new one when it happened.

I got it replaced under warranty but it could have been worse.

Gonna bite the bullet and get the i5 6600k skylake. Just need a good board for the money.. Any ideas?

it really depends on your budget. there is some really good boards available
