Lo all,

I've been a "gamer" since mohaa, all them years ago... A friend of a friend built my existing machine a while back ,like 5-7 years back, and its kind of lagging in the fps dept nowadays, majorly in PUBG. Its old, not ancient, and still serves me well. So im looking to upgrade some bits, I've got £800 to play with but I'd like in that a new monitor, preferably bigger than the 19 or 22" one i have now. I'm a bit of a dunse when it comes to components so I really would appreciate any help or ideas on upgrading what i have. Many thanks :))))))

AMD Phenom 2 x6 1090t socket am3
Gigabyte Ga-890fxa-ud5 MB
Corsair vengeance 8gb ddr3 memory
Radeon amd 6950 2gb graphics
ax850 psu
WD 1TB Non SSD

Thanks

ps Syncmaster p2270 screen

You could use your old case, HDD (if OK) and PSU if not too old(?) and update with the following within budget for 1080p high/ultra gaming:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £777.56
(includes shipping: £11.10)

This is my advice as well. Dear Old Timer, your CPU and GPU are ancient and quite obsolete. DDR3 is dead. Your motherboard has no upgrade path. You really need a whole new system to keep up in today's games. You should overclock that new CPU when you get it.

This new machine will be worlds better than what you've got.

While the above build will be money well spent, they forgot you're requirement for a monitor, so you might need to either drop the 1060 to something cheaper or drop the 1600 to 1500.

Or maybe something like this?

Total: £795.24
(includes shipping: £12.30)

If you can get the 3000mhz ram to work then maybe could get 16gb at just over your budget, I chose the 1400 then the 1500x before realising you could actually get the 6 core version hence the odd order lol, but because you asked about a monitor I chose the rx 580 as freesync monitors are much cheaper then g-sync, but obviously can't go other 24" without dropping gpu or cpu to cheaper versions to make up the budget.

Unless this budget included the sale of your current system then you can add an SSD once the parts are sold as your system is still worth a a fair few quid still, I sold a M-atx Gigabyte AM3 board with Athlon ii x2 250, cooler and 2gb ddr3 for £20 earlier and you have a more top of the range setup

Thank you plec and mistersprinkles.

Yeah i thought as much. The only decent thing i have then IS the case, an antec 1200.

Could you guys recommend an HDD and psu to fit the bill please ..

And have you any recommendations for a screen?

Much thanks upfront!

Thanks Exomale.

Tbh, Id probably stick to what was first suggested as per my last post.
Sod it, its going on the credit card :)

If the PSU is the Corsair AX850? - Clicky Then this is/was a quality unit with a 7 year warranty - and if it's only 5 years old coupled with the minimal stress it's been under with your present system (it's literally being ticking over in that rig) i would move it to your next build.

As for an HDD - one of these would do:

Depends on your budget for the panel?

Yep its that 1. And your correct, I dont think iv ever seen the cooler fan on lol. (probably doesnt need it with the case fans)

I might have binned all the extra modular leads (accidentaly) can you get replacements?

I'll add the 1Tb to the list... I'm on 650gb now and hardly ever go beyond..

I could stretch to £ 180/200 for a monitor....

Thanks

Corsair parts/accessories - clicky

I should have also asked what size preference and whether you wanted a multi-purpose gaming/office monitor (va/ips panel) or pure gaming 144Hz TN panel as you have the choice with £200 budget?

Plus, is height adjustment important? - i find this crucial along with panel quality - but i use mine mainly for office work with occasional gaming.
