Hi guys. I'm looking to build a new machine soon as I've sold my current one. The main uses for the machine will be graphic design, listening to music and programming. I'm looking to spend about £1200. I was tempted to get a mac but lets face it, the hardware is way overpriced. I was considering the dual core intel processors? are those good for my purpose? Thanks.

I need monitor, keyboard, the full works.

I think this includes all the basics and I have stuck in a copy of XP in case you need it. All the parts are good solid components and there is a little bit of space in the budget to go for a nicers case/keyboard or whatever.

no motherboard or ram?

My mistake, I removed them for some unknown reason and then thought it looked a little cheap :o

AMD systems tend to be better performing and better value for money so that is why they tend to be recommended plus I know less about Intel systems, yours looks fine in that I can't see any obvious incompatabilities other than no hard drive but now I've included a motherboard and Ram I think this is a better system. If you want to save money get the X1800XT 256mb :)

I knew I had forgotten something lol. The 3800+ X2, is that fast compared to a 3.0ghz dual core intel? What speed does it run at? I'm just thinking in terms of running vista in the future and graphics software, would it have problems?

The X2 3800 is effectively about the same as having 2x 3200 Venice chips on one die, it has a physical clock speed of 2.0ghz but as you probably know that has little impact on the actual or perceived speed of the CPU now as technological advances mean that length of pipelines and other efficiencies etc make more of a difference.

I'm pretty sure the X2 3800 will be faster but I haven't looked up any figures to back this up yet :) It is unlikely to have problems(or at least any more than the Intel) running Vista and a lot of the X2 3800s are overclocking quite well at the moment.

Will the antec 450 PSU be good enough to power the x1800 xt? Does it have the correct connector?

It is an ATX 2.0 compliant PSU so has the connectors and given the components I have specified will have no problems supplying enough power :)
