Helsinki to New York Video Cockpit Cam

Amazing how closely to have to listen to the air controller with all that background chatter, I barely made out the call to abort landing.

Anybody got experience of landing an aircraft of this size? Didn't look that difficult. : )

Would have been a lot more clearer to the pilots who were wearing headsets.

I've landed a BA 777 sim about 15 times. It's easy as the aircraft does almost everything for you. Introduce an x-wind, engine out, low vis etc and it becomes a bit harder though. In fact, I found it easier to land than a single engine Piper PA28.

Hang on, Finland to New York in 20 minutes?

I assume it's a supersonic aircraft? Flight path over the pole? :confused:

Methinks some elite video editor removed the boring bits of the cruise. From what I can see it shows start, taxy, take off, departure/climb, intermediate approach and final approach as well as a go around for good measure.

Scuzi you'll know,

when they are barreling down the runways,

V1 = speed after which they are commited to take off as in too fast to realistically slow down in time?
Rotate = front wheels lift?
V2 = comitted to the take off?

I'm sure it's something like this

Pretty much. V1 is usually described as "decision speed": it's the speed at which it is equally (un)safe to keep going as to try to stop. After that, whatever goes wrong you keep going and try to take off.

I'm sure it's something like this

V1 = Speed at which they are commited to take off
Vr (Rotate) = Speed at which the handling pilot will pitch the aircraft to the required climb attitude
V2 = The Take Off Safety and Initial Climb Speed to achieve a certain height at a certain distance.

Was that at the place near Heathrow? I've flown and manually landed one of their 744 sims there. It was a lot of fun, I went there with a friend and the 'instructor' who was taking us through was new and knew less than we did. The fuel panel was incorrectly configured and she didn't know how to set it up. A few switches set and I'd cleared all the errors and got the fuel coming from the correct tanks ;)
