Henry Kissinger dead at 100

He will not be missed.

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger died at his home in Connecticut on Wednesday at age 100, according to his website.

The big picture: Kissinger was the top U.S. diplomat for two presidents and was a central figure in U.S. foreign policy in the latter half of the 20th century.

  • The joint Nobel Peace Prize winner was a controversial figure due to policies he pursued during the Cold War, such as the bombing of Cambodia. But he remained an elder statesman of U.S. foreign policy, sought out by a succession of senior officials including Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Zoom in: Kissinger shared his 1973 Nobel with Le Duc Tho of North Vietnam for the negotiations that ended U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. His award prompted two members of the Nobel committee to resign.

Anthony Bourdain put it best.

Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands. You will never again be able to open a newspaper and read about that treacherous, prevaricating, murderous scumbag sitting down for a nice chat with Charlie Rose or attending some black-tie affair for a new glossy magazine without choking. Witness what Henry did in Cambodia – the fruits of his genius for statesmanship – and you will never understand why he’s not sitting in the dock at The Hague next to Milošević

He had some difficult masters in the White House, a person can not be all bad but maybe he is on the wrong side of history in many respects. Again hate is probably the wrong word, disliked or disagreeable would be better.

Only one person has been responsible for even more crimes against humanity than Kissinger and his name was Adolf Hitler. Had he survived WW2 and stood trial at Nuremburg he would have ended up on the end of the hangman's noose. Kissinger should have been tried and sent to the electric chair.

Wrong... Without even thinking hard i can think of two... Stalin (far worse than Hitler) & Genghis Khan.

I will agree that Kissinger was bad man as men go.

Pol Pot and Mao were also pretty awful, although IIRC with mao it was largely that he was an utter idiot and didn't understand a lot of what was involved with things like food production or basic industry (he'd fit right in with various current governments...).
