here is my 4870x2 cooling mod

3 slots that thing takes up, so much for crossfire if you've one of them in your pc.

the 4870x2 probably accounts for less than 0.2% of total ATi sales, the people who crossfire 4870x2's probably account for 3-4% OF that already tiny quantity. That means you're probably looking at 96/100 people getting increased cooling for no extra cost, silence, coolness and stability, while the 4 people in 100 can buy a dual slot version, or use a motherboard with larger spacing of pci-e slots, there are several.

I'm so fed up that these companies make their products usable for that 3/100 people to the massive detriment to the other 97/100.

I've got a 4870x2, i'd never buy a second, I didn't even buy on release but a month/two after and I still had to get a loud dual slot cooler version, and this pallit one still isn't out yet. Its a joke really. For the past 10 years we've had onboard everything and 95% of gamers have 5 pci/pci-e slots of space for insanely large gpu cooling but have mostly had to make do with loud and pointlessly, needlessly small coolers so the incredibly small minority can fit an extra card in.

I love my X2 and have had no problems so far with it in anyway and the mod the OP has done is just not worth it because if that card goes wrong now your stuck with it no way to rma and i certainly wouldn't buy it second hand with what you have done to it. Good luck to ya i hope you don't have any problems but there had to be a better solution then the one you chose and i prefer to keep the warranty rather then knock some degrees off the temps and lose the warranty maybe i am just getting old lol.

On that palit do those extra two fans draw cool air in that then gets vented out of the case or do they vent the heat into the case sorry not very familiar with that design so if this is a noob question please answer without feeling the need to further highlight my noobness :D.
