Hero?

I said at first I didn't know too much about law in general, I just attempted to explain why I thought attempted murder was the wrong charge.

I only repeated what the teacher told me, his wife is a lawyer and he was telling me about an actual case that happened where someone had died after being punched in the neck and they had to decide if it was murder or manslaughter and he gave me pretty much that exact analogy. Not much more I can say to be honest.

I would have thought a punch to the neck could be any of legitimate self defence, manslaughter or murder, depending on exactly what the person intended and exactly what they did and what sort of threat they were under.

Anyway, my point was just that there is no such charge as attempted manslaughter in UK law... At least, not that I'm aware of.

You are correct, I made it up. It originally seemed logical that it would exist but I suppose not.

Wikipedia said:
In R v Creamer,[16] the court said obiter that attempted manslaughter is not an offence known to law.

Attempted manslaughter does exist in some places, nit uk though.

It seems to be when you have lost your mind with rage, but get stopped before killing someone.
