Heroes of Newerth

I've just downloaded this game after reading a lot of hype about it. Is it just me or does the tutorial very basic? I have been in two matches now and I've just been running around getting the last hit on the imps and then being pwned by all the other heros - I just can't seem to do any damage on them whatsoever :(

Are there any guides which go in to a bit more detail about what to do, which hero to choose when your a newbie and generally what the whole game is about? Can see me getting very frustrated with this!

would have bought it but the community is full of immature kids one of the worst gaming communities I've ever come across

As good as this game can be, there is way too much crap to make it worth the hassle.
Matchmaking is a real disappointment, for the last few weeks it's taken up to 30 mins to find a MM game due to lack of servers at prime time, usually 5-10 minutes. They have focused on making it a ranked ladder system instead of simply an easy way to find a game like LoL did and most people don't seem to use it.

Finding a decent/fair game is very difficult, almost every game in the lobby has 3+ locks on 1 team and most games end up stacked in the hosts favour. I was hoping matchmaking would just be a matter of press the button and get a decent game.

I think they are way off on the 5% leaver limit, yes leavers are annoying but if you ever hit 5% you are excluded from using matchmaking and branded a "leaver" where you can get people with 50% leaves. I foresee the majority of players being leavers after a few months.

All balance decisions seem to be made by a small group of "competitive players" on S2's behalf and they "balance for competitive". :\

Bit of a rant but I don't think I will be purchasing it, at least not until I see how many players are still left after a few weeks. I read they've hit just over 100k purchased accounts now, I'd guess 20k concurrent players at peak time from the 50-60k now.

Oh, can I no longer play this then?

Odd. I was finding matchmaking to be very good, usually getting a match within a minute. Whats your PSR?

Host your own games. Problem sorted.

Yes, thats the point surely? What do you suggest they balance for?

All whinges about not finding servers, leavers etc are all pretty much null and void as the game is lovely now :D

Any utter rage kids get banlisted, plenty of servers to play on, psr's balancing out to give indication of actual skill level.

all is good as us optimists have been saying about what was going to happen on retail release.

Shame I can only enjoy it for 2 days before I go into the army :o

respect:)

Stupidly i picked intermediate on MM and am now stuck playing with beginners :(. Both games mid have completely failed leaving me to get raped for the rest of the game.

Hmm, See this matchmaking thing, I went and selected Beginner (because thats what I am) and I've been doing rather well. Is there some way to move up to the intermediate level, or is it just automatic, based on PSR?

Also does anyone else find that they win a hell of a lot more doing matchmaing matches as opposed to playing games from the public games list?

Ah, retail :D I've only played a couple of no-stat games recently but really look forward to the (hopefully) better experience once exams finish.

Yup. Friends like to team-up and obviously lobbies suit that. Even just two mates using voice communication can make a huge difference. I'm hoping the MM balances out nice because I will mainly play that unless some of you lads are playing.

I think you start at a level. and once you win those 5-6 matches so your in "good standing" you will start to increase.

how many MM have you done? (bare in mind i havent done 6 either just speculating)

Dunno, it started my PSR out at 1350 by selecting beginner, and its gone up by 120 or so, and has the "you are in good standing" thing at the top odf the MM pane. there seems to be a couple of 1600+ in the games now though, so I'd imagine its working as intended.
