Sylar can see, down to the DNA, what is wrong with someone or why they're "special" and he, as ridiculous as this sounds, actually eats his victims brains which alters his own DNA.

I didn't think Sylar ate the brains..... All he does is chop off people's heads to see how they work. He can then re-create their powers

It's not mentioned at the start of the series but the creators have indeed confirmed that he eats the brains of his victims and that, in some way, alters his DNA.

It sort works in the sense that Sylar is the opposite of Peter. Peter can mimic powers and Sylar just steals them. It's mentioned in one of the episodes where Sylar is captured that aside from the teleknesis they can't see what other powers he has, yet his DNA has been remarkably altered.

Peter works by the remembering those who have the power he wants to use, which basically makes him an empath. Sylar kills people to take their powers, which makes him apathetic to other heroes.

Heroes' Shocker: A Spin-off Series!

[Photo of Heroes promo poster from NBC] How they managed to keep this quiet is a shocker itself, but NBC execs will announce today at their annual upfront presentation in New York that they've been developing "Heroes: Origins," a spin-off series of this season's breakout hit that will, at least temporarily, replace "Heroes" on NBC's Monday night schedule.

The new show has been ordered for six episodes, and will introduce a completely new set of characters. The coolest part: In an effort to make the show interactive (and, I'm guessing, to squash what is going to be some griping by "Heroes" fans who are unhappy that the original show won't return in September), NBC will ask fans to vote on which is the new characters is their favorite, and that character will then become a regular cast member on the original series.

Scrubs is comming back too.

Sounds interesting although the bit about Heroes not returning in september has me worried - when will it be returning ... ?

Scrubs coming back is also brilliant news - to me the current season has been pretty good, it started off a bit slow but its defo improved with the latest episodes getting quite interesting (especially last weeks !)

Whens this out on dvd?

I fancy watching it to catch up and don't do downloads. I like watching stuff in one hit over a week rather than once a week for 6 months :D

I just read that Heroes: Origins will run for 8 episodes during the mid season hiatus. I.E. over the Xmas period.

The article you posted is also slightly misleading because the voted for character will apparently be introduced in Season 3.

It's not like I wrote it or anything... Therefore, it shall remain misleading. :p

Edit: Speaking of misleading... Boom. ;)

That's interesting, I didn't think Sylar wanted blow up the city on purpose, he seemed so against it when he thought he was going to explode.
(When he was looking over NY saying Boom he seemed keen to blow it up)

and since we know he nor Peter don't blow up after seeing them in the future there's only one way the bomb could've gone off.

I think the incident with his mom disowning him pushed him over the edge :p

thank christ for that. he's the worst. if sylar could kill him and nikki/jessica, that would make the series.
I hear you, the nikki/jessica character does my head in, what's she for? what power does she have?

she appears to be schitzophrenic! If I was her, I'd be mad! Her husband can reach through walls (awesome!), her son can do pretty much exactly what half the computer nerds on this forum would die to be able to do, and she hears violent voices. Wow.

I don't think I've ever seen that Parkman bloke play a part well. Have you seen him in that episode of House? My god, what a loser.
