Hi guys, just a quick query. My brothers machine is currently using a powercolor x800 bravo (that for some reason doesnt default clock properly so I had to atitool set it to the correct memory speeds).
I also have a 7300GT (the much faster DDR3 version, not the slow DDR2 version). Now, I know 3dmark doesnt give a true representative of speed, so I havent looked at that, but does anyone know which is the faster card? The 7300GT DDR (Galaxy version is the one I have) is meant to be faster than a stock 7600GS.

Im guessing they're (x800bravo and 7300GT) about equal, but I wanted to ask :)

Trust me I have, from reviews and experience that particular 7300GT IS faster than any reference 7600GS.
It's not a reference 7300GT with 350 or 400/333 clocks I'm talking about, but the Galaxy, Zalman fanned, DDR3 based, 500/700 card, which is a lot faster, thats why Im interested in how it compares against the x800, as it might be worth the swap if its the same speed/faster, but has SM3 for newer games :)

For example

Blue is the Galaxy DDR3 7300GT, Red is the Galaxy 7600GS and green is a reference 7600GS

I know the standard 7300GT is slower than the 7600GS, but thats not the card Im talking about ;)

I never said it was slower just to go check, I do know the card, I used a few for customers as silent after the XFX passive ones started to fail.

And the X800 may have speed but its old as the hills DX9B, S.M 2.0 so lots of new games wont install or run.

By todays standards they are all slow.

The X800 has a 256bit interface, the 7300 only has 128bit. The X800 has got more power under the hood but the 7300's engine is more efficient with SM3.

I've had an Asus X800XT PE and a BFG 7600GT OC and the X800 was faster. It was the reason I had the 7600 for 3 weeks till I bought this X1900 as I didn't like it in comparison to my AGP system and the X800.

If I were you then I'd sell a card or two and then just buy the X1950Pro 512mb for £70.

Good idea! :)

To the OP, the X800pro would be faster than your 7300GT

THe X800 is not that slow, it just doesnt have SM3 but only about 6 games currently require this. And even though my card has SM3 i have never played any of them.

I'd stick with the x800 bravo, it's not much slower than an x800pro and is considerably faster than the x800/6800.

The DDR3 7300GTs were great value cards for the budget sector but the high clock speeds can't overcome the fact that it has fewer pipelines and a 128bit memory interface.

You guys seem to be pretty much confirming that they're about the same speed (bar some here or there). I'll have a think on it, but if there's not much in it, I'll see if my brother decides to get any games that need SM3, if not, I'll leave it out. Selling the card isnt really an option as I dont want to spend on my brother, he's only got a 1024x768 screen anyway, and one of the cards is my backup/interim card in case of any need in the future, which is what the 7300GT is now.

As it's got a zalman on it, Im also considering using it for a HTPC.

Might be worth trying the 7300GT to see how far it clocks. When heavily clocked some people have got them up to around 6800GS performance level which would put it slightly ahead of a (stock) Bravo.

Is that right, I could waste my time and go over to GameFAQS and list at least a dozen games that peeps cant install as of no S.M 3.0 support, we are talking about tech from 2004 and before, later that year DX9C launched, move on man.

Im busy and lazy but this will keep you going for now.

" Pixel Shaders 3.0 (DirectX 9.0c)
The following is a fifth list of computer games that require DirectX 9.0c programmable Pixel Shader & Vertex Shader support to run, eg. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Games such as Far Cry that only need Shader Model 3.0 as an optional feature will NOT be listed here. Users of graphics cards such as Radeon 9700 Pro will therefore not be able to run Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, but will run Far Cry without problems.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Spider-Man 3
Lost Planet (There are 2 versions of the game -- one for DirectX9 with Shader Model 3.0 and one for DirectX10)
Colin McRae: DiRT
BioShock
Medal of Honor: Airborne "

There are many more.
