how much harder are the hgv tests compared to the car ones?

when i did my car theory i didnt need to learn anything as it was common sense.

ive just booked my 2 tests £45! have to book seperate multiple choice and hazard awareness now so ive got a week between my tests.

Just read the books and remember to study all the questions. You may be just about to pass your licence for 7.5tonne truck but they can ask you about suzie lines and trailer questions too. The hazard test was the same as the car one when I did mine 5 years ago but that might have changed.

My brother just passed his about 4 months ago, he said it wasn't too difficult. I'll get him to post here when I see him tonight :)

Not too hard the worst bit is the Hazard perception, however if you have taken your car test when the HP was part of the test then you will know what to look for.
I got stiffed for clicking too many times on a certain clip thought I had blown it but still managed to past the theory is easy peasy .. as long as you read up before hand .. get a copy of "The offical theory test for Drivers of Lagre Vehicles" and bobs your uncle. all you got to do then is go and do a couple of hours with a school to see how many hours it will take you.

:)

remember its up to 100 questions now and 19 HP clips.
still a peice of cake, just make sure you read up on EU drivers hours and tachographs, apart from that its just common sense really.

Best approach I've found to these multiple choice tests is to get the CD-rom which simulates the test, so then you can keep practicing it and gradually learn the right answers, rather than trawl through a book.

This is especially important for the hazard perception test because learning when to click is key to getting the mark.

PS. Anybody wanting to get their Cat C or C+E license would be wise to do so before Sep 2009 because then they are making the process a lot more drawn out.

bit of an update, i passed my theory today :)

92/100 on the multiple choice and 78/100 on hazard perception.

hopefully start truck lessons next week :)

not really but i had been practising and doing mock tests on line for a week or so before, 2-3 tests a day with 100 questions.

only bits that need learning are working hours and taco stuff really

well done:)
just be thankful that your doing this before the CPC comes into effect for HGV;)
its already in place for the PCV.
looking at early next year for HGV, basicly its 2 extra tests on top of what you are already doing and a hell of a lot more hassle.

Theroy tests are the easy bit, remember, once you gain your HGV licence, then you really start to learn how to drive. Remember this until the day you hang up your keys and you won't go far wrong. :)

And they wonder why drivers want to leave the industry?
