Finding a job in the UK isn’t easy, but as you are in the IT sector, have you looked into registering with a contract firm? They basically put you in touch with companies that are looking for short term staff, but it gets you some work.
Get some work, and you will meet up with a few work colleagues etc. If all your work is around the same area it shouldn’t take too long to make a few friends. Moving from one country to another can be very daunting, but it isn’t going to take too long to find your feet if you keep your head screwed on correctly. Find one friend, and they normally introduce you to their friends, and as soon as you know it, you're in the circle of friends.
I commend your resolve to do such a task. It isn’t easy to just one day up and leave your homeland. Many find it hard to move from one town to the next, so I do sympathise with you.
You could always join a gym or take some type of cheap night class. Once you have a job and are getting funds into your accounts, the opportunity to find friends becomes better. The UK is full of places to find friends.
Many over here like to socialise, who knows. After a few visits to a gym or something you’ll soon be going out and wondering where all your time is going.
Internet is always a good place to find friends as well. You’d be surprised how many online “pen friends” you can find. Not been unknown to find that special someone either.
