Hi guys just registered last night and this is my first post so hope you can help
I’m upgrading the core components in my computer and would like an expert’s view of the following plz.

Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) – OEM

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)

Zotac GeForce 8800 GT AMP 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) – Retail

Thermalright HR-03-GT VGA Cooler

Samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black

Just a few questions

I’d like to over clock to around 3GHz will theses parts do the job?
I have an Enermax EG 475AX PSU. Will 475w be ok?
Is eSATA the only difference between Abit IP35 and the IP35 PRO?
Would I be better off with some OcUK PC2-8500C5 or the Corsair 6400C4 or something else?
And when do you think the Zotac GeForce 8800 GT will be in stock?

Thanks

Yeah as WarBird said the GeiL is good too, slightly better timings but volt range is 0.1v higher (shouldn't be a problem on that motherboard though)

You can get 3.4Ghz at least with that setup, 3.6Ghz is about the max on air for a Q6600 I think

Also, if you're gonna be modding your 8800GT with that Tr heatsink why not just buy the cheapest card and OC it yourself, since you'll be voiding the warranty and wasting Zotac's improved fan/heatsink already on it anyway.

nice choice with the cooler and motherboard, they'll give you some nice OCing results

as for your graphics card, the new GTS is due out soon, it's perhaps worth seeing what the price is of that, and how good it is.

and welcome to the forums

claimed.

Is eSATA the only difference between Abit IP35 and the IP35 PRO?

would also like to know

Would I be better off with some OcUK PC2-8500C5 or the Corsair 6400C4 or something else?

im pretty sure PC2-8500 is not compatible with the Ip35 or the pro, it says Dual DDR2 800 so the 6400 800Mhz ram i would say is the limit? im buying the Ip35 so far with OCZ 2X2GB gold vista edition ram.

And when do you think the Zotac GeForce 8800 GT will be in stock?

if your gonna be replacing the cooler, id get the cheapest 512MB GT and overclock it yourself, because all the cards are basically the same, hence saving around 30 pounds or so

Hi Skydoat ,Ben M & platinum87
Thanks for the posts

WoW 3.4 would be nice :D

So a cheaper 8800gt it is then :)

And the Abit ip35 pro will take two 8800GT`s but the Abit ip35 only one

Also i think I read somewhere that the Abit ip35 pro/Abit ip35 will unofficially take faster ram than the 6400 is this true?

Yes they can take PC8500, but it's kind of overkill atm, PC6400 will do fine.

The IP35 series use Intel-based P35 chipsets, which support ATI's Crossfire, but not nVidia's SLI (exclusive to their own chipsets), so whilst you can put two 8800GTs in it, you'll see absolutely no benefit in games since they aren't SLI-enabled. The alternative would be to get 2x ATI HD38x0 cards in Crossfire for those P35 motherboards.
