HI FI Advice

Im not sure what model they are as the seller hasn't replied yet. However, I think they are XT from 2014/15. Are the onkyo that bad? What about the speakers how do they compare to other speakers on the market compare to others?

Also is there anything to look out for when buying new speakers 2nd hand as I never purchased one 2nd hand and also never heard speakers above 200 pounds ;/

Update

This are the speakers
Tannoy Revolution R2 the main ones I think at least it's how they look like. Still waiting for update from the seller

Hi Mr. Cat,

Well, R2's are very good indeed and insane VFM at that price. I don't think you'll find a better all-round floorstander for under £350. The real wood veneer looks stunning and build quality is superb.

I cannot fault their performance with classical, vocal/acoustic and R&B. Bass is not as slow as some would have you believe. Mine are mass-loaded (14Kgs each), port tuned, top weighted (10Kgs each) and about 2 feet from the walls. The soundstage is rich and spread fairly wide. The twin 5 inch woofers produce plenty of bass, almost as much as my dedicated sub! The unloaded cabinet did colour the music a bit, but this can be reduced using the methods described above.

However, I would agree with some reviews that these speakers don't "rock". This is the only, (small) criticism I would make. The upshot of this though, is that they do not fatigue either.

What sort of amplification are you planning on using? They would work well with bright & punchy sources/amps to help balance their slightly laid-back manner.

Very highly recommended.
