HI-FI Tweaks, myth or fact!

The best tweak I heard of was the CD that contained frequencies that were supposed to align all the electrons in the IC's of your CD player, amp etc when played back, for better transfer of signals! :D

The bigger question here is does bi-wiring actually effect sound quality? ;)

I've seen evidence to support and deny this claim, but reserve judgement.

...or whether using "directional" cables in either the direction they're supposed to be in, or in the opposite direction, makes any difference whatsoever!

For what it's worth, bi-wiring does make a discernable difference to my ear at least.

It may well not do but I was using the same amount of cable for either biwire or normal connections so I chose to biwire ;)

the name for this phenomenon is "Placebo Effect"

just like those who spend £100s on interconnects and speaker wire when the al cheapo ones are just the same ;)

you only think they are better hence why you hear/see better!

Within reason tho'... anyone can hear the difference between using that freebie 'bell-wire' stuff that comes with those awful stacking systems you get in Argos and the like, and using proper speaker cable that actually has a decent core to it. Unless of course you have one of said stacking systems, in which case there probably won't be a difference :D

Having blind-tested cables in the past when looking to buy them, I can honestly say there can be a difference between brands if you listen on good kit, but that priciest is not always equal to best!

Thought I would start this thread cos of a heated debate in another forum. ;)

2. Polishing plug pins and fuses - IMO makes a remarkable difference to the sound, adding control response and bass depth.

Comments, any more anyone. I may add to this later. Maybe we can create a sticky!

Hahahaha!!!
What rubbish.
:D

I seem to remember you posted this in a thread about power supplies. something along the lines of polishing the pins on your PC plug will help to stop your PSU failing. Was rubbish then and is rubbish now.

But wait, you've qualified your statement by saying it adds "control response and bass depth", it must really make a difference. I think not unfortunately. Bass depth would show a change in the frequency response of the amplifier and could therefore be measured quite easily. As for control and response, what exactly are these mythical qualities? I've certainly never heard of them during 5 years of an electronic engineering degree, so I would wager that they in fact are phrases dreamt up in the What? Hifi review writers manual.
