Hi all, I found this forum after looking on what way i could go on my pc as i have just got BF3 and most of the settings are on low.

but to be honist i am not sure what i do and dont need to make my pc play bf3 better.

I have been reading different sections of the forum, but to me it is just a lot of different numbers and names, and i keep going around in circles

this is my spec from what i know

intle core duo e8400 cpu (3GHz)
3gb ram Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2
8800gtx card
windows 7 ultimate
500w power

im not sure on the motherboard

any info would be good

many thanks
ian

Welcome to the forums! I think the best place for this to be answered would probably be in General Hardware. However, it would be useful for you to put what resolution you play BF3 at, and what your budget is to obtain better frame rates! A quick glance at your specs and I would probably recommend a new graphics card - something like the 560Ti would probably make a world of difference!

A new graphics card, Nvidia 560 Ti

Upgrade to at least 6GB RAM

Overclock the CPU to about 3.4GHz you should be able to hit about 3.8GHz, Providing you have a OK motherboard.

thanks all

i have done abot more digging and found out..

m/b is
abit ip35 pro

power is
zalman zm500-hp
forgot to say windows is the 64 bit version

i dont know how to overclock

i normally play it how it is set up, i have just had a loow and it is
1152.864
graphics is on auto
texture is med
everything else is low

I dont have a lot to spend, prob around a very very max of £150- £200. but from looking at different cards, i wont be getting much

just a small update.

i have got a ATi Radeon HD 4870X2 with a Arctic Cooling cooler fitted.

so hopefully this will help me out abit more

will my power supply be ok for this card?

My second PC is a

E8400/3.5GB DDR2 (useable on Win32)/Radeon 5770/430W plays BF3 comfortably. It's not at Ultra settings - but are at high.

I have got another 4870x2 card now.

i have installed it into my comp and it boots up fine. but as soon as any drivers are put on and i do a restart. i get a blue screen on start up, and then can only go into safe mode.

if i delite the drivers, it boots up ok again

anyone know why this is please, or how to fix it.

thanks
ian

Is it the most recent drivers? Have you completely removed the old ones? From what I gather going from Nvidia to AMD you have to make sure the old drivers are fully removed.

if i go into control panel, display adapters, it shows the 4870x2 two times. I have disabled one of them, and then restarted the comp, and it booted up fine.

i wonder why it has 2 of them in there for?

Isn't that because it is two GPUs on one board? Not sure if it should be two or not in control panel. So, when you say disabled one you mean you installed the drivers okay too?

yes drivers up dated ok.

i just tryed to play bf3, but came up with a error. so something is still wrong somewhere.

why cant these things be simple to do?? :-(
