I have just started to copy over my ssd data to my backup drive (hdd), and a short way into it I received the following message :

Where do I go from here? Skip?

clone it instead? should copy everything

im guessing at hibernation file system? idk,can skip it if you want aslong as your important data is copied over

cloning would also be bootable incase you needed a backup os

I've never tried cloning before, but I assume this would be a good starting point (my ssd is a Samsung)?

yh ive used it and works fine

just remember to set the source drive as your ssd and destination drive as hdd and should be fine,doesnt take long either,can always boot up from it if need be

Hmmm...started up the Data Migration software, and it auto select the 'source' disk as my Samsung ssd, which is fine. However, it looks like it expects you to use a Samsung ssd for your target disk? Everything is 'greyed out', so I can't select what drive to use for the destination, such as my hdd.

Yes, skip.

It's the hibernate file for if you send your system to hibernate and all your memory is written to it. It's going to be out of date if you copy it to another drive, and it gets remade as when you boot your system off the new drive.

can try macrium reflect its free,once cloned expand the partition to fillup the hdd

windows will let you expand the partition I think in drive manager

I think its worked. The only thing that puzzles me is that why doesn't G say X free of 465gb (500gb hdd)?

If you cloned it, then it litterally cloned the partition over. The rest of the space is still in a raw state which you can extend the current partition or create a new partition with disk management.
