HID colour

OEM halogen or OEM HID? 6k is the best compromise, anything less will appear like a halogen bulb but I don't know how they compare perfromance wise.

4300K is still whiter than most halogen lamps, but has more light output than 6000K HIDs, so clearly 4300K are the best all round choice. Lots of light...no silly colours.

Its not for the merc (surprised anyone would think an S-class doesnt have hids :)), but thats worrying as i do not want them to look in any way yellow :/

I thought maybe they had gone kaput and OEM were going to be ££££'s to replace them.

As I say the ones you are used to will be at least 6000k colour temp.

I doubt it's as high as that, 5000K maybe as that's about as high as the OEM lamps go. Most manufacturers use 4100-4300K. The colour temperature rises as the lamps age anyway.

I've just upgraded from a standard 35 watt 6k HID to a 55 watt item... the light is just amazing.

Many bike only have a single headlamp, so I got the brightest light available while staying legal

I'd say 6k is closer looking to a factory fit, 4k3 looks way to yellow

thats not true, the extra blue in 6k helps night vision. even though slightly down on output it still produces better night vision

I think the main reason for this is white lines / signs / road furniture react better to that colour... and glow back at you

I have 6000K at the moment and will definately be getting something a tad lower when one of them pops. 6K certainly isn't "omg look at that boyracer" type levels of blueness but it certainly has a tinge of blue in there that shows up on road signs usually.

:)

Ah, no, already crossed that bridge with the merc :(

These are actually going to be fitted to a Porsche 911, hence definitely not wanting any form of boy racer look. I am still torn between 6000 and 4300, realistically what is likely to be closer to how a 997 looks?
