Spotted a group buy for a H7 Single beam HID kit on FFOC which has been running for over a year, the single beam kit is £65 all in.

These kits seem amazing quality and receive nothing but praise in the thread in question (20 page thread!). The HID kit is apparently the same as the HID4U kit's but without their sticker. I've ordered the H7 kit for the MK1.5's they also do a Bi-Xenon kit for the MK1's, went for 6000k colour temp which seems to be the most popular choice without being OTT like >8000k.

Looking forward to fitting them mid next week with my new ST lamps. Anyone else use/used these kits and your thoughts on them?.

Of course I will be getting them fully aligned immediately after fitting to avoid blinding anyone.

HID's are coming from www.xlsperformance.com.

Can't really fit HID's to them then.

Course you can. Ten's of Focus owners have fitted them with no issue.

The ST lights are exactly the same as mine apart from being smoked.

Fox the beam scatter is really a none issue since they will be aligned just as my halogens the only difference being they will put out more light but if the beam is correctly aligned the problem is minimal.

Read that someone on FFOC had an MOT tester comment that this particular kit had less scatter than his previous halogen bulbs.

Scatter is very minimal when properly aligned

Here is a picture from the standard Focus lamps properly aligned with the HID kit.

Come on it's not exactly like thats completely glaring someone. Beam seems rather focused to me with minimal scatter?

Hardly all over the place compared to yours the beam just seems slightly out of focus but it's not as if it's glaring directly into someones face

Fair enough it isn't obviously as good as a projected beam but not the worst either.

Maybe I'll just fit the ST lamps I don't want to cause an accident afterall. Still waiting to hear from someone on here who has used one of these. Still curious how they got on.

They did Woohoo but you're looking at a hefty wedge. Maybe I could buy just the Ford projector lamps on their own to use with one of these kits..

Dude, you've stressed that point more than once now, you really don't need to drum it in any more.

OP : When i purchased HID's i also purchased Projector Lamps, it meant a much reduced chance of blinding oncoming drivers, but it also massively improved the light output on the road.

You seem to have already made your mind up if you have already purchased the ST170 Headlights, and the HID's, however bear it in mind for possible future upgrades :)

He goes out his way to annoy and spam. Ignore him, works best :D.

I have already bought the HID kit but people on FFOC seem blinkered by it thus I didn't realise to the full extent of how dangerous these kits can be. I'd really hate to blind anyone.

Everyone seems to want HID's becuase their current lights are 'so poor'.

What people dont realise is that your average 4+ year old and 50k+ mile car will have poor lights not becuase they are not HID's but becuase the lenses become scratched and pitted over time and distance, and this reduces light output.

Not my reasoning, I'd be buying new ST lamps in any case :), simply want more light.

So Muncher you have one of these kits I gather from a quick search, have you had many issues with other traffic users flashing you etc.

Since I've bought the kit I may aswell try it, If I encounter many issues with other road users or I feel I am bliding people I'll take it off and sell it. I know a LOT of people with kits like without issue. I can see it being a problem in older headlight units but surely it's less of a problem with modern headlight units?

I'm not willing to write it off totally from what you lot have said it seems Fox is leading the herd as usual anyway.

Yes - but Muncher has projector lights so his kit is a 'grey area' without affecting others, yours is not.

Does Muncher have auto leveling aswell then??

Fox I see plenty of aftermarket HID kits daily, I do more mileage than you. I'm yet to be blinded by them and I have fairly light sensitive eyes, if they are properly aligned it significantly reduces glare to the point where it barely becomes an issue from what I can gather from my experience.

Older headlight units are obviously going to be worse with these kits compared to modern headlamps. Hence why I would not fit it to a prehistoric Corsa with dated lamps/reflectors like some people do.

The focus headlamp is hardly the worst in the world and is very unlikely to blind someone to he point they can no longer see. As for going over bumps in the road and blinding people I have never noticed the beam of my current lamps to ever go above bonnet height.

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say that you do more mileage than him because you do lots of motorway miles, it's not on motorways that problems occur.

Apologies forgot you were an expert with a wealth of knowledge, how long have you been driving again?

Infact have you even passed your test?

Don't get Fox started on Fog's Muncher.

Since Fox is our resident road warrior with his uber low mileage town driving. We may be here all night now that's been mentioned :D.
