Hi guys,

Whats the current 'best' HID kit out there? Prices seem all over the place since I got mine a couple of years ago with cheapo nasty stuff on Ebay from £30.

Whats the best H7 HID kit out there and why?

Are these definitely not road legal if you don't have projector lenses?

I suspect they are for his mums new Z4 which will have projector lenses, hids4u have a good rep for aftermarket ones across car forums as they can deal with the bulb warning issues etc where cheaper ones just pulse or fail totally. More rescent cars also supply a lower voltage of around 11v to the headlights unless HIDS are enable on the ECU which the hids4u set can handle, you have to do this on VAG cars via vagcom for example to get the full 14vs when the engine is running. I've heard Merc/Vauxhall/Minis do this so suspect BMW will be the same.

I suppose the best ones would be to retro fit a BMW set with parts for ebay etc but I suspect you would be paying around £400 for them.

If it's for the Z4 then he needs H4 bulbs not H7.

A set of OEM Z4 HID headlights would cost a more than £400 I think, they aren't a common item like the 3 series ones.

No, the Z4 uses H7 bulbs.
The last BMW to use H4 dual filiment bulbs was the original single lamp 3 series from the late 70s

Heh you're right. I just chucked away my H7 bulbs from my 3 series after reading on a forum the Z4 uses H4 bulbs.

Anyone want to buy a set of 6000K H4 bulbs? :D

I have my MOT in a few weeks and am currently considering whether I should leave the HID bulbs in or put the normal ones back for the MOT.
I haven't had any problems with the HID ones and never got flashed from other drivers but is it worth the risk
