'Hide your tats, customers won't put up with it'

That might be a reasonable deduction, yes.

But if you are in the business of selling products and services to snobby *****'s, then you tailor your offering to that demographics wants and needs.

Might be an idea not to employ someone with tattoos in the first place then?

He works for a company where image is absolutely everything.

Why is he suprised they would make such a request? He should simply comply, as its a reasonable enough request.

This tbh...

I'm sure there are plenty of garages out there that don't mind tattoos - I'm guessing Porsche perhaps pay a bit better than them else he'd surely just walk and find another job.

Secondly - we're in the UK not the middle east - wearing a long sleeved cotton shirt is hardly going to put you at risk of heat stroke.

So we can deduce from this Porsche owners are snobby cocks.

Perhaps - but if your business relies on snobby cocks for money then who are you going to care about more - the snobby cocks or the scroat you recently employed who's winging about having to cover up his tattoos.

Well if the scroat with the tattoos is a capable mechanic, the snobby cocks are just going to have to get used to the great unwashed proletariat.

Perhaps people who run Porsche garages know their customers better than you do and have a different opinion on the possible outcomes and the effect on their PnL. Unless there is a dire shortage of capable mechanics then I can't see tattoo guy wining this one.

Don't worry the "snobby cocks" will always find a good scroat to work for them and the unwashed proletariat will just remain smelly for ever.

If he tattooed his head would he be forced to wear a balaclava, or maybe a stocking? Wonder what the owners of £80,000 sports cars would think then lol.

Chancres are he wouldn't be hired. Making an assumption, but I expect he wore a long sleeve top to interview.

"Ohhh my dear that ruffian appears to have body art all down his arms, I say; scum stop working on my Carrera GT immediatley. I'm going to take it to kwik-fit instead, I've been there before, and none of those fine young men have tattoo's"

Why do so many people in this thread completely miss the point?

Society thinks like this. Yes, its wrong, but it thinks like it, therefore some people choose to tailor business to suit the perceptions of the majority of customers.

So what if the majority of customers wouldnt like being served by a person of a particular race or religion? Would it be ok not to hire anyone of the offending type?

Yes of course it is

Like race, sex or religion is anywhere near the same thing.

Thats illegal, asking people to have smart appearance and hide tatoos isn't.

hell no !

google what happens when you get a sleeve or glove caught in a drill/lathe/balancing machine/anything that spins

lots of brains on view

Sorry but anyone using those types of equipment with out the proper safety guards are morons anyway, people design the guards to protect the worker in full ppe, regardless of comfort!
