'Hide your tats, customers won't put up with it'

Well there is quite a bit of variation even in just the female ones :o

I digress, but person in the picture doesnt have arms long enough to wipe her a***..... ewwwww......

Surely the mechanic will be in his trial period still and wouldn't even think about trying to take any action over this.

Anyway, clearly another britboy fantasy.

It's just like saying, 'can you please remove that turban, customers may not trust us'.
But that would never happen now would it. (no racist)

Stupid world we live in.

No, its not.

Tattoos, especially if they are large, and visible, have a stigma attached to them, that of thuggish, violent anti social behaviour.

As an employer I am not prepared to lose trade (regardless of what my personal opinion is on the matter) because of my customers feelings about someone plastered in tattoos.

A turban is a symbol of a peaceful religion, a tattoo, isnt.

This.

I really dont understand how some people don't get this.

When you run a business, it is customer PERCEPTION and not reality that matters. There is no point being 'correct' if all your customers think you are 'wrong' and shop elsewhere.

Doesn't sound unrealistic, I only posted yesterday that a previous employer of mine asked me to remove my piercings 6 months into my employment. I did comply with some protest, but it wasn't worth the aggrevation to follow it up, they knew I had them during my interviews and I asked if it would be a problem as long as I didn't start adding more.

I worked in an office block, it wasn't really a place customers would walk in however, they did occasionally.

I suspect in a few generations time, as tattoos have become a lot more popular now the stigmas attached to it and illogical childs mind view on them will disappear, slowly. It's mostly the older generation that have somehow lost track that society changes as time goes on but, because they've reached some age time stops.

I have tattoos, they haven't been a problem; but from now on I make sure they won't be an issue in terms of gaining employment, keeping it and working wearing the clothing everyone else can wear(or not wear if the case may be).

I've also learned to grow out of judging people when I don't know the first thing about them, It's something I try to practice a lot and I admit I falter sometimes but everyone has their story. I used to when I was younger but it's not right, at all.
It also helps to never jump to conclusions...even in severe cases you might not understand.

I understand the perception is still an issue, but that's their own problem, that they can't see how meaningless it is in their own mind.
Therefor I'll do what I can not to work for people who are like minded in this, not that they'd employ me but if they said I had to cover up unreasonbly (read, UNREASONABLY), screw them, there's much better people in the world.

But a turban can be a symbol of terrorism?

That's like saying, 'I don't want to leave my car with that guy because he has tattoos and he will possibly pee all over my car'.

Same 'I don't want to leave my car with that guy because he has a turban and will possibly strap a bomb to the bottom of it'

I thought discrimination revolved around things people don't have control over like race, gender, disabilities, etc. A tattoo is a personal choice, tough ****.

Religious discrimination exists, which is also a choice.
Just throwing that out there.

That's what I'm trying to get at.
People on here don't know the word 'stereotype'.

I understand what you mean, but other people don't, they also can't, for some odd reason understand other people think differently, often extremely different.

I got my first tattoo done yesterday. Would I extend it to a sleeve? Hell yes! But I would understand the need to wear a long sleeve shirt, I wear them quite a bit anyway :)
