Hi guys just came across an high res image from NASA showing the earth at night, This will totally max out your pcs it did for mine anyway (Spec in sig) :p

How many of you can open/view the image with no lag at all? (you must open the image with windows picture and fax viewer for better comparisons also click on actual size and enjoy the lag :D )

Ive just uploaded the image here Picky

The image is 40mb and at a res of 16384x8192

Looking forward to you results Vegeta, also try to edit it in paint

I think you need at least 4gb of ram to view/edit this baby :D

Okay just downloaded it, lets see how long it takes [spec in sig]

Took 10 seconds in Windows Preview thingy... it crashed when I chose actual size :p

Just opened it up in Photoshop - was quick than Windows lol. To see the whole thing it is at about 9% zoom.

At 100% Europe doesn't quite fit, this is on a 2007WFP at 1680x1050.

It took me 9 secs to open in picture and fax viewer, and 10 secs to view at actual size and it opened in paint and I coloured a dot in, but on exiting it came up with "not enough memory to complete this task" or something similar. Rig in sig.

ok guys, can you actually zoom manually while viewing the picky?

How much ram? PF Usage? and CPU %? are taken up viewing the picture at full size?

Keep em coming :D

Photoshop typically takes around 60-70MB of RAM, maybe up to 100MB with a large image open [or several smaller].

Opening the NASA image pushed PS's RAM usage to 542MB

Good job I have 2GB lol.

Hmm mine runs better than I thought, it doesnt crash at all took about 10 secs to view and I could zoom in fully and zoom back out, didnt try anything else, any other picture like this? Maybe not ones of the whole world but a single country?

on dualcore 4600+ running a lot of programs in the background, + 2gigs memory

~6 seconds to open in windows picture and fax viewer
~5 seconds to resize to actual size, at actual size its using 573megs of memory lol

side note, its a cool pic :)

*edit*
lozza is your P4 like on nitro or something?? your time is totally out of sync
or are you opening it at 1% zoom instead of 100%?

~9 seconds to open in irfan view, zooming is pretty much instant.
~6 seconds to open in PS (with PS already running)

Running an X2 3800, 2gig ram, 7600GT

it opened to 9% default.
running smartplant (nearly a gig ram) microstation, email, mozilla (4 tabs) ie 6, and nero.

trying again now.

edit.
ok. 6 seconds this time. maybe 7. and no more than 2 to hit 100%

one more go.

ok. 8 this time. something is wrong.
going to try a reboot.

pulled out the phone to use the timer.
7.8secs (call it 8) to open it.
1.5 secs (call it 2) to go from 9% to 100%
using windows picture viewer.

dont forget this is a work machine. not full of silly apps, and optimised for 3d cad.
