High choke in CSS since vista upgrade...

It's something to do with the loss of packets between PC and server due to being unable to keep up. Normally down to a slow line.

Edit: That didn't make any sense when I typed it. The connection between your PC and the server is pants, causing packets to be missed both ways. This means you'll be firing at 'old' data (i.e the guy has moved) or only parts of your actions are seen by the server.

the first response was good advice. vista is still 'beta' for games.

Have you tried more than one server? could just be that the server is not working too well for you. Also try sticking all your settings to really low - just to see if it makes a difference at all (for me running windowed helped reduce choke - god knows why!)

so far 3/4 vista av programs i've tried increase lag in games hugely. nod32 "can" do and is pretty awful for vista. avast for sure destroyed my ping in CS:S, up to 45, turned off real time monitoring(firewall and internet stuff was already off, but file realtime monitoring) and boom, back to 6-7ping from nice london servers. errm, something else was bad too, mighta been trend(bluescreens a lot in vista anyway).

at the mo i've got avg installed but not run cs:s for a bit(one of the few low ping needing games i play lately) so not sure if its affecting lag or not. might have a game later to check. turn off firewall(if 3rd party, windows own seems to not create an issue for me), try turning off real time monitoring, errm, if not that then, well i was without the AV issues running cs:s with exact same ping as with XP and i think lots of other people are fine with CS:S in vista.

I updated my Directx and that helped increase fps back to normal but still having trouble with choke.

Would i need to do something with the router then? As Xp is fine. I have duel boot at the moment but would be nice to use just one system.

Vista is not 'beta' for games, the drivers in Vista are just not upto par. Not Vista's fault.
