High CPU Idle temp

My neo2 platinum reports my opteron 146 @2.8 to be 44 degrees idle and 56 degrees under load. This is with the swiftech apex ultra water cooling. If i clear the CMOS the first time i boot the temp reading in both BIOS and everest report 28 degrees idle and 36 degrees under load. If i reboot the pc the temp readings go up to 44 and 56 again. Not sure why this is but i put it down to a dodgy motherboard probe as nothing changes apart from a reboot. Basically, its prob just a dodgy temp reading for you and not a broken HS.

If its an older 3200 then they can run pretty hot. My 3400 ran at 46 idle and 58 load on the stock cooler. The newer venice and SD cpu's run a lot cooler. 3000 venice on stock cooler runs passive when idle.

Same happens with mine! My neo2 runs a [email protected] w/ 1.55V, 42 idle and 56 load with the Swiftech Apex Extreme Duty. Tried re-seating the thing a few times then came to the conclusion that i had a dodgy motherboard sensor after using a temperature probe and finding the true loads in the high 30s.

Glad to know its not just me with this problem as i thought i had a pretty good cooling solution but got quite dis heartened with people saying they got temps of 4X under load with air and me with 56 with water. I reseated my block about 5 times but it made no difference. My temps should be about the same as yours i would imagine as i use 1.4 volts but have a worse water block than you. What BIOS do you use by the way? im using 1.B. I would like to use a custom bios but its a bit of a pain to flash using x64 windows with no floppy drive :/

Using the Sideeffect 1.C3 TCCD Edition bios. Flashed to this when i built the system because i used the corsair XL however i recently upgraded to the G.Skill HZ and never tried any of the other bios's. Was thinking of removing the IHS on the oppy but didn't know if it would work well with the waterblock. Nice spec ^^, same as mine (146/2GBHZ/AX800XT).

Cheers for all your help. Well, the AS5 has finally settled, and it idles at 49c now. I'm still toying over the idea of getting an Artic Cooler... the thing is, the whole reason I bought the 3200+ was to overclock. Surely, if I overclock and it reports the temp. as being much higher than it is, a safety feature will cut in and shut it off? I *really* don't want that happening, for obvious reasons.

I have the Asus A8N premium and have found with Everest that the CPU and AUX readings are switched around for some reason.

Have you tried running up Asus Probe or AI Booster to see what temps they are reporting ?
