Hi all,

I've recently built the below:

Gigabyte Aorus B450 Pro
Ryzen 2600 stock cooler
Gigabyte GP-B700H700W PSU
MSI GeForce GTX 1660Ti Gaming X 6144MB
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz
WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive
Zalman i3 Edge Midi-Tower Case

I just done a stress test out of interest and noticed my CPU temp running high to the point where I stopped the test after only a few minutes, weirdly if I remove the side off the case, the temps drop to 69c max. Currently idling at 36c. The moment I do the stress test, with the side panel on, the temps rocket to 85c after about a 10 minute stress test. I then get scared and stop the test!

Is this normal? No overclocking all running stock.

Maybe you need a different cooler , perhaps even an AIO cooler ?...and maybe look at what your case cooling setup is ? cos I'm not sure how good that case is for cooling as it looks like its mostly closed at the front , ie it looks like it pulls air in from the sides at the front ?

Are the fans pulling air into the case or are they push air out? I normally have the fans on the front of the case pulling air in and the one on the rear pushing air out.

bad

I have a 2600 and the stock cooler is trash but what you describe really points towards air flow rather than the cooler not being up to the job. What is the fan setup you have in terms of intake/exhaust fans? In my case my temps were awful under a stress test but fine under basic conditions but my fan setup was crap so could be that? Im loathed to blame the stock cooler because yes its pants, but its really not that bad compared to budget AM coolers. Certainly not melting your CPU under load bad :)

Did remove be the plastic film at the bottom of the cooler ?

I've done this a few times ... Bigger when it's a hard loop system to !

The case has 3 fans as intake , In theory airflow shouldn't be that bad even if front is restrictive . Not for ryzen 2600.

What fan profile are you running in bios ? Or the fans controllers via the case ?

If removing side of the case helps that much, then the biggest problem is case cooling.
Those Zalman fans must be "lights are on but no one is at home" models.

Thanks all for your replies.

I checked the temps after an hour of apex legends and the highest the CPU got with the side on was 70c. I remember taking the plastic off the bottom as I stuck my finger on it by accident! :)

To be honest when the setup was complete I was a little surprised at the lack of air rotating within the case, the fans don’t seem to spin particularly fast (fans set to max) and as far as I can tell, the front 3 make next to no difference at all. To be honest I just gathered it was how it was supposed to be.

I checked in bios and they are set to normal, there are 4 settings under “smart fan control”. Normal, silent, manual, full speed.

When I adjust the fan speed on the case, all it seems to do it adjust the lights not the actual rotation of the fans... you don’t suppose I’ve done something wrong?!

Are those fans with three or four pins connectors?

Also where are those fans connected to?
Case seems to have some kind fan controller and if fans are connected to that motherboard might not have any control.

guessing lights are wired into the voltage, increased voltage would make the LEDs brighter.

as above ^^ depends how you've connected them in

I know they do a mesh panel front for that case - wondering if their CS would be kind enough to send on out as your getting air flow issues .

I've ordered a few more fans - going to put these in when they arrive tomorrow, and check I haven't plugged something incorrectly meaning the fans aren't working as they are supposed too.

I'll report back - thanks all for your help.
