I aint realy been paying much attentuion to the graphics market lately so im a bit behind. My m8s looking to spend £300+ on a setup (SLI and crossfire is fine). Altho I can advise him on which are the good cards im not sure what is the best buy at the top end of the maket at the moment.
Its to go into a high end conroe system. Any help appreciated.

cheers

I think you have 2 choices really.

The 7950GX2 or crossfire a couple of X1900XT cards.
The Nv card is slower but costs slightly less & uses less power.

If gaming at high res i think the X1900XT crossfire setup offers more performance & value. NB the HIS slave & mastercards would be my choice.

Whilst the X1950XT is definitely quicker than a X1900XT, its not that much quicker that i would spend a lot more to get one.

I think the X1900XT is the best value for money of the cards mentioned.

Just go for the GX2 It offers fantastic perfromance.I have one in my top end conroe rig and the perfromance is staggering. :D

The x1950 is about 1-2fps faster than the x1900xtx.

I would ask your m8 what resolution he will be gaming at because if its 1280x1024 then a GX2/Xfire will be overkill. An X1900XT will serve you well upto 1920x1200.

Not so sure @ 1920x1200.

Nothing can touch the GX2 at that res.

yer making me jealous, I promised my self i would stick with my x1800xt till a desnt DX10 card comes out. Im finding it hard going :P

Considering that no games will be abvailable for your new DX 10 card, then you have to ask yourself whats the point?

Better to get a faster solution now and enjoy beacause by the time your DX 10 card can be used in DX 10 games it will already be a gen old!

So why did you upgrade to a GX2 then?
;)

Because I fancied a play. You can do that when you have a good job that pays plenty of money.

When you leave school and IF you work very hard and listen to the teachers you MIGHT be able to do the same, one day :D

Haven't got a clue what that means....But I'm not going to rise to your bait. ;)

Yer i no the DX 10 cards will be pointless, what can I say, I like graphics cards and want one even if its just for demos and Crysis. As for getting a new DX 9 card now Im trying to resist and invest the money into some thing I need. For example i just got a new monitor, might get a new pumb next or motherboard.

Im not sure what res my m8 plays at but same again he has the money and wants at big toy to show off to his m8s, got his heart set on a top end system.

Would after agree with Easyrider  The GX2 is the best performing solution for the money.

Would pick a silent HIS X1900 combo instead for the added performance, silent operation and benefits of HDR & AA - easily outperforms a GX2 and if you dont mind about the fans ( I dont notice my standard cards) you can get the two for around the same price as a standard GX2

Same price? where?

I paid £285+ vat for an inno3d GX2 and I can get an Evga Gx2 for £300+vat

You reckon you can get a X1900XT 512MB Xfire for £300+vat? Very interested if this is true

OcUK

HIS ATI Radeon X1900 ICEQ3 SILENT Heatpipe ***Crossfire Edition*** 512MB £230+vat

HIS ATI Radeon X1900 XT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB £200 +vat

Total £430 + vat. a lot more than £285/£300 + vat for the GX2

Email in trust.
