High-energy laser-based weapon system

And the drones they shot down were detected at a range of three kilometers (1.86 mi) and shot down at two kilometers (1.24 mi).

A HAL (high-energy weapon technology) 60kW demonstrator is planned for 2013, & even a 100kW could be possible.

This and the tracking and destruction of a mortar round!

My LASERs'll cut through your defenses like a hot knife through butter

I imagine they could use these for pinpoint strikes on targets without the need to lay waste to urban/civilian areas, minimising collateral damage?

Hell yeah, would love to see that in Godskitchen or Fabric as already mentioned. I think that club lasers generally go up to 1 watt though. Lasers for outdoor events can go up to 10 watts. Laser pointers are 5mW.

I'd love to see some footage of the tests.
It doesn't go into detail though how it works exactly as the 50kw seems to be from two seperate units - a 30kw and 20kw.
It suggests they are only used together in some scenarios?

That was the impression I got. The 100kw array would be several lasers working together with cumulative effect, but if you could use them separately then you could engage multiple small targets or blast one single target very quickly. Very cool stuff either way. Shooting an 8cm mortar round going 110mph is pretty damn cool.
