High Latency In WoW When Using Skype?

This seems like a very strange problem to me, but may be one that some of you here know how to sort, hopefully.

Basically, whenever I am on Skype, while playing WoW, my latency in WoW goes from around 150 (average) to somewhere in the thousands, usually 1,500 - 2,000ms. If I close skype, this goes away.

I assumed that maybe skype was using a lot of bandwith, but according to task manager, I'm still below 1% usage on my wireless, so I don't see how that could be affecting it.

Anyone have a clue what's going on? A fairly brief google search didn't help either.

Thanks all :)

Had posted this here earlier thinking it might be the better place to put it as it's not specifically about a game, but I guess it may have been better off in PC Games? If a mod could move it over for me that would be great.

Too much bandwidth used up with skype.

Looks like your net can't handle both, it's gotta be one or the other for now.

That's what I had thought, but looking at the connection usage it's still way under maximum as I said.

Guess it's worth taking a closer look at the bandwidth usage.

Your wireless bandwidth is between your computer and the access point. You need to know how much is being used between your router and the Internet.

You could be downloading at full whack with 2mb internet connection. 2mb is a very small percentage of Wi-Fi's 54mb, so of course you will only see small usage on your WiFi.

That's the thing though, the bandwidth I was referring to was the internet connection,it's sitting far under what it would do at full speed, but still lagging to high hell :(.

Ah well, back to uni later today, works alright there. Thanks for the help guys.

Skype is a network killer. That, is common sense. Some universities even ban it

Listen to these people, they are telling you what you need to know.
The graph in Task Manager is no use nor ornament.

Get Netlimiter 2 Monitor installed and watch as skype rapes your upload.

(Once your upload is maxed out, your download will naturally be choked due to the way the internet works, plain and simple.)

Could be the isp traffic shaping, A while a go with BT pretty much everything was classed as p2p and therefore capped at 6kb/s during peak time which killed things like teamspeak and vent
