High ping in CSS when 2 PCs are connecting through same router

The other day I was messing around with my mates PC and after sorting the issue we decided to have a game of css, so I connected to the server through my own pc - everythings fine. Then as soon as the other PC connects to the same game server our pings goes sky high and completly unplayable.

My service provider is Virgin through a 20 mb cable connection, and its going through a Linksys WRT54GS. I cannot remember whether we were able to play on seperate servers or not. I'm wanting to play over the weekend so wanted to see if there was any resolution to this.

What are your rates at? Check your cs settings, though I would have thought 20mb Broadband would be enough.

Next check the routing on your router, IP's automatically assigned? Other computer trying to access a different gateway?

I have done this on many occasions and that would be my first point of call

I had this problem ages ago, and Steam eventually created a proper article to help others with the same issues. See it here:

Basically, you need to setup a different "+clientport 270XX" for each computer on the network .
