High pitch noise from PSU when comp off.

As title really, powersupply is a HIper TYpe-R 580w PSU. I woke up at about 4am this morning because I could hear a high pitch noise, worked out it was my PSU, the PSU was still switch to on but my system was turned off.

When my computer is on you cant hear it as the fans kind of drown it out I think, although when I went close I still couldnt hear it,

Is this something I should be partiularly worried about, it may be that when I turn my omp off again its gone, but is there anything I can do a precautionary matter?

if you unplug does it stop?

sounds like the buzz of a transformer to me. dont have this powersupply, but I wouldnt say it was normal, but on the other hand I wouldnt say it was dangerous in anyway.

Besides it always best to unplug at the mains

I get this with my Tagan occasionally. It's random. It's difinitely not loud enough to wake me up though!

Yeah If i turn it off at the mains it stops.

I dont want to have to do that every night, and now im worried it will explode if i dont while Im at work, what a pain!

just replace it then, tell whoever you bought it off that it's faulty and you want a new one. no reason why they shouldn't give you one

My Hiper has worked great during the past 6 months. But recently when the heat kicked in the 80mm fan at the back started to rattle a bit. Im a bit unsure what to do now :confused:

. I might RMA it.
