I own a pair of crystal wilder glasses - https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/glasses/wilder/?prca=PRCA50039697&aspect=front

They are scratched quite badly now (paid extra for anti scratch etc)

I was thinking of getting a pair for £29 from Glasses Direct using the MSE deal
Alternatively, I was thinking of paying triple for a single pair from Ace & Tate.

I work on my PC a lot, but not sure if blue light lenses are more effective than night shift on PCs.

Has anyone tried some high quality frames and lenses? The tiniest scratches put me off, I carry a microfibre everywhere, so I would really like to invest in some good ones. Or if they're all cheap, plastic crap, may as well go Glasses Direct.

I got my current pair from https://www.theglassescompany.co.uk/ about 1 year ago.
With there platinum service which is the highest they can do (£98 ontop of frame price) includes a coating that makes water roll of the glass in droplets/anti scratch/UV protection etc. I went with platinum because I have a high prescription so wanted the lenses as thin as humanly possible. The Silver service is only £39 and comes with all the same coatings etc.
Still great, no marks on the glass at all (wear them all day every day)

I'd say dont bother with blue light nonsense.

Quick question for somebody that just starting wearing glasses about a year ago and only seldomly wears them.

Are all glasses(lenses) going to be exact the same, this second pair I got I'm thinking there's not the same wow factor in clearness as the first pair. When I got first pair from vision express I was wowed at the difference however second pair not quite so wowed but maybe my eyes have adjusted.

Been to lot of different opticians over the years
Got varifocals and a pair of pc glasses
And prescription sunglasses
Never noticed any difference in the clearness of any of them
I think the first pair you ever get they seem clearer simply because they just
Improved your vision
Over time you get used to it so the next pair may not give the same wow factor

How you manage to get them badly scratched?
Had my varifocals 2 years not a scratch on them
Personally I hate blue light filter makes everything look too yellow
I found best thing was getting a pair specially for the pc that were adjusted
To the correct distance I sit from the screen
That seemed to be lot better for me than blue light filter
A lot of people use their normal glasses
For pc which isn't always ideal

How did you manage that m8?
Did you ask your optician ,how did that work :)
I currently am using my first pair from around 10 years ago for pc as i sit about 3 feet from the screen.
But am noticing that i could do with a pair `slightly` stronger. But my `newer` reading glasses are no good for this

Yeah I just asked the optician
Reading glasses are aimed at a closer
Distance so to speak than a pc screen usually
And with my varifocals it was hurting my neck as you move your head not your eyes with varifocals
He just asks how far you sit from the screen and tests that distance for lenses
I just got the cheapest lenses no thinning or extras
And the cheapest frames as its only for the pc so don't care what they look like
I got much bigger frames than my normal
Glasses so can focus more of the screen
At once
I let my mate try them obviously his eyesight is different to mine
But he was shocked how much improvement it made for him
So much so he went and got some from the optician the same week
I totally recommend getting some specifically for the pc based off my own
Experience and the reaction from my
Mate when he tried mine

I had a pair made for the PC - measured from monitor to my eyes -1.2m and they are great - well they were till my eyes went so off to optician on Monday - will be an expensive day as due to problem I need reading -PC and distance glasses.
I had some glasses made at Specsavers the last time -a pair of driving and pair of driving sunglasses with all the options and to this day they are not as clear as the normal driving glasses- I put it down to tint but I think they were made on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon.

I got a pair from goggles4u. I found a discount that gave something like 50% off.

If you subscribe you get a daily offer.
I'm happy with mine, used for PC only.

Oh and something DXP55 said,
I went Specsavers for a test and they said I need 2.75 & 2.5.
I then said they won't work, I need to look at a monitor my arm length away and she said yeah, that will work.
I insisted she she put a card up in front of me my arm length away and she was amazed when switching the lenses that it all changed.
She had got me down for near vision as 2.75 & 2.5 but when I got her to test me an arm length away I was 1.25 & 1.5.
I went to Goggles4U who made me some up and they work great.

Be aware that even though the Optician in Specsavers agreed that my computer screen distance was 1.5 & 1.25 they wouldn't make me glasses in that size because my prescription was higher.
I then went to Tesco and Vision Express and they wouldn't make them either so that's why I went to Goggles4U.
You may have better luck.

I used to work for a contact lens firm. We supplied several large opticians including Boots, Moorefields eye hospital and many others. You have a set of small industry standards, for example the power could be .12 out either way (+ or -). Some opticians like Moorefields wouldn’t accept the tolerance, it was get it spot on or they’ll go elsewhere.

We would produce thousands of “stock” lenses for some opticians. These would be popular sizes and power combinations. They’d be sent to some opticians so they could have them “sit on the shelf” so to speak and pick out one for a customer giving a quick turn around. Would an optician pick out a stock lens near to the requirement but not a 100% match? I’d imagine some would, granted the difference might be very negligible but imagine this....

The optician was supplied a stock lens size is 7.75mm and -2.00 power but the power is .12 out of tolerance on the plus side (They come in steps of .0.25 blindness is 24.0) and size wise it’s 7.72mm. A customer comes in needing a lens power of -2.00 and the curvature of his eye is 7.80mm but the nearest the optician has is the -2.00 and 7.75mm lens, the size difference wouldn’t notice but the difference in size would make a further reduction in the power of around 0.25 giving the customer a now under powered reading of -1.67.

Hope that all makes some sense...

As far as I’m aware glasses are pretty much the same, it depends on the company your optician uses. https://www.essilor.co.uk/ were always one of the best along with https://www.zeiss.co.uk/vision-care...on/how-are-spectacle-lenses-manufactured.html who explains “stock” lenses.

How can I fit those good lenses on my glasses? Where do I buy them?

Specsavers give you that coating for free included. Never had a problem with Specsavers, got my new glasses last week. I have got bifocals for distance and reading with free reactive light and the anti scratch/anti glare etc coating. For computer I just tell them I need intermediates with distance of 1M for the monitor screen. I've tried varifocals but they made me dizzy.

Both glasses suit me fine.

I did think of getting another bifocals from Glasses Direct just as a backup.

The frames I wanted by themselves where £300 at specsavers/boots compared to like £55 online. If I went with specsavers for the frames+lenses, I was looking at around £450 compared to £133 online.

I never had any luck with any of the scratch-resistance coatings for plastic lenses. They all failed. So I've gone back to glass lenses. Problem solved!

Thats why I was wondering to get another pair online but then I dont like the idea if there is something wrong with them cant just walk into a shop and get them fixed/adjusted.
