High-Resolution Audio Question

The "pure audio" discs will actually play on ANY blu ray player, not just expensive stuff. Not that ive got any cheap stuff .....love my arcam bdp300 :D

I assume he just meant that if you're at the stage of wanting to hear one of those kind of cd's you'd be better off with something over an OPPO to get everything out of it.

I had a Schiit Valhalla and it wasn't too bad although I preferred my Graham Slee, wouldn't class either as "Mid-High End" though.

No, frankly you won't really hear any difference unless direct A/Bing between sources.

I've only ever noticed significant difference between 44.1/16 and 96/24 using top end convertors and mastering monitors in a heavily treated room (I'm a sound engineer). For home use, CD audio really is sufficient for most material. In a typical living room with even half decent kit, the majority of the difference that people notice between normal and 'high res' audio comes down to how the material was actually mastered.

Where the higher sample rates and bit depths come into their own is when recording. The extra bit depth allows you the ability to record a wider dynamic range without having to worry that you'll overload the ADC and clip the recording.
