high temp under load??

Thats very high, I think the cooler is not on properly.

I used the Thermaltight Ultra on my i7 at 4ghz and got max temps underload of 65-70c.

That doesn't sound right to me those temps are as good as most people get with water.

It might help for the OP to list voltages but in this weather I can certainly see a 4ghz i7 reaching nearly 100c under constant heavy load.

Was using Sharkoon 2000 fan at full speed and Core Temp and HW Monitor to monitor temps.

Is that a 2000rpm fan? if so something definitely strange there unless you live in antarctica :p what were you using to load the processor?

I've had a few i7 920's and at 4ghz on air I always struggled to keep them below 85c at the best of times never mind during the summer, it's the primary reason i went over to water, I get 70c load now on water with a triple radiator.

Was using Prime 95, Yes that was the 2000 rpm fan.
Was running this time last year, gone over to watercooling now which I get similar temps.

Running with just under 1.28v on the core.

right i've loaded optimized defaults in the bios and running prime95 is now giving me max temps of 70 degrees under load.

i want to run my 4ghz overclock though stable. it was an ocuk overclock but for some reason after running prime95 for a few mins the cpu gets too hot and i get BSOD.

the core is at 1.280v. should i maybe try lowering this and if so, what to?

thanks.

Pretty similair to what i was getting with 2 x silent eagle 2000's on a lapped TRUE, i7 @4ghz, 1.2750 vcore, (p95 small fft, LinX was about 4-6c hotter) since switched to a pair of Akasa vipers, temps have rose a few degrees lately though, due to the warmer weather.

same here the TRUE is still an amazing cooler (i was push/pull with some scythe 1800s and a whole lot of case fans) in fact i dint see any difference when i went over to my first watercooling set up.

Yep, best £50.00 ive ever spent on pc bits, (got the black version on release). So far its cooled a q6600 at 3.8, q9550 at 3.8 and now my current i7 at 4ghz.

Ive used a few different fans on theese cpu's, q6600 was under 2 x sharkoon silent eagle 2000's, fairly loud at full speed, though i had them on a fan controller. Q9550 was cooled by silent eagle se's (quite rare), 400-1200 rpm pwm, couldnt hear them, used those on the i7 for a while, lately switched to 2 x akasa vipers, ran via pwm currently at 1100 rpm ono, inaudible, but at load they ramp upto 1900 rpm where they can be heard but not as bad as the sharky 2000's were.

Current viper and lapped TRUE black setup.
